The HUD renderer owns the Stop button. If it crashes during a native recording, the capture helper keeps writing, the tray Stop item talks to the dead renderer, and quitting kills the helper before the MP4 gets its moov atom. Main now watches the renderer that starts a native recording. When it dies (any reason but clean-exit) while a recording runs that nobody asked to stop, main waits for any start still in flight, then: - during a recording (after set-recording-state(true)): runs the same stop as the Stop button, muxes the audio on Windows as the renderer would, leaves the recording state, and shows the saved path in a dialog; - during the countdown of a warm start: stops the capture and deletes the file, as the renderer does when a countdown is cancelled. The start, stop and Windows mux handler bodies are now named functions so main can call them. Refs webadderallorg#1139

… starts - If the HUD dies after its Stop went through but before it ran the Windows mux, recovery now muxes the stopped file and reports it. It keeps the file rather than guess: the renderer has left the recording state by then. A pending path whose file is already gone (a cancelled countdown) is only forgotten. - startSettled waits for every start in flight, not only the latest one (createStartTracker). - A countdown capture that fails to stop is logged. - Tests no longer assign inside expressions (biome noAssignInExpressions).

🔒 Security & Privacy | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy liftDelete native audio sidecars with a discarded countdown capture.
When countdown capture includes native audio, the stop handler can leave
.system.m4aor.mic.m4afiles on macOS, or.system.wavor.mic.wavfiles on Windows. This cleanup deletes only the video and cursor telemetry. A HUD crash during the countdown therefore leaves captured audio on disk after the video is discarded. Delete the capture’s native audio sidecars as part of the same cleanup.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

…lags - stop-native-screen-recording now records whether it ended a recording (set-recording-state(true) had run) or a countdown capture. If the HUD dies before the Windows mux, recovery muxes and reports a recording, and deletes a countdown capture as the renderer would have. - The Windows start also sets nativeScreenRecordingActive, but its stop only sets windowsCaptureStopRequested. Recovery now judges a Windows capture by the Windows flags alone, so a running Windows stop isn't stopped twice.
A countdown capture with native audio also writes recording-<ts>.system/.mic files (.m4a on macOS, .wav and .json on Windows). Discarding it after a HUD crash now deletes those along with the video and telemetry (nativeAudioSidecarPaths), so no captured audio stays behind.

The renderer cancels a countdown by stopping the capture and then deleting the file. If it died in between, nothing was recording any more, so recovery left the capture on disk. Main now remembers the video path of a renderer stop that ended a countdown (until the next start), and recovery deletes it with its telemetry and audio files if it is still there.
Windows writes recording-<ts>.recording-diagnostics.json next to a capture. Found in a real Windows run: discarding a countdown capture after a HUD crash left that file behind. It is now deleted with the video, telemetry and audio files (getRecordingDiagnosticsPath).
webadderallorg#1146 records the webcam in the macOS capture helper as recording-<ts>-webcam.mp4. A countdown capture discarded after a HUD crash now deletes that file too (nativeCaptureSidecarPaths); when it doesn't exist the delete is skipped, so this works in either merge order.

Description
The HUD renderer owns the Stop button. If it crashes during a native recording, nothing can stop the capture helper any more:
stop-recording-from-trayto the dead renderer, so nothing happens, moovatom, so the MP4 can't be played. This PR watches the renderer that starts a native recording (the
start-native-screen-recordingsender). When it goes away with a reason other thanclean-exit, main first waits for a start that may still be running, then checks whether a recording is running that nobody asked to stop. If so:set-recording-state(true)), main does what Stop does. It runs the same stop function asstop-native-screen-recording, and on Windows it also runs the mux step the renderer normally calls (mux-native-windows-recording). Then it leaves the recording state likeset-recording-state(false), so the tray, cursor capture and area border reset. Last, it shows a dialog with the saved path and a "Show in Finder" button, or the error if stopping failed. The start, stop, mux and set-recording-state handler bodies are now named functions, so main can call them. The start handler keeps its body; it's only wrapped to track the call in flight. The decision logic and the platform rules are in
electron/ipc/recording/hudCrashRecovery.ts(stopRecordingWhenHudGoes,createHudCrashRecoveryDeps), with their own tests;recording.tsonly passes in its state and handlers. EachwebContentsis watched once, however many recordings it starts.Known gap: only a renderer crash is handled, not a HUD window that is destroyed or navigated mid-recording.
It doesn't open the editor on its own. That would need the session logic from
project.tsandsources.ts, and I'd rather keep this change small. The file is in the recordings folder and opens normally.Motivation
#1139: the HUD crashed twice about 73 minutes into a recording. Both screen recordings were only saved because I attached the Node inspector and called the stop handler by hand.
