fix(mobile): threads on an unreachable environment no longer hide in the Working shelf - #26008
With the mobile Working shelf on, a thread whose environment has stopped answering keeps the running state it had when the connection dropped. It stays folded into the collapsed Working shelf indefinitely, so a broken thread is hidden behind a section the user has no reason to open.
Repro: turn on the Working shelf and collapse it, start a turn on a remote environment, then make that host unreachable (power it off, or block its port). The thread stays in the collapsed shelf for as long as the host is down.
Change
buildThreadListV2Items leaves a thread out of the Working shelf when its environment is disconnected, so the thread is listed in the inbox where it can be seen. Once the environment reconnects and reports the thread running, it goes back into the shelf.
An environment counts as disconnected past a first connection attempt (reconnecting, offline, error, unsupported, available), the rule threadRouteIsHydrating already uses. A first connecting attempt keeps the cached state, so a cold start or resume doesn't move every running thread out of the shelf and back. Connected environments with cached or synchronizing shells also remain outside the shelf until synchronization succeeds. useThreadListV2 observes connection phases and shell-status atoms, derives the disconnected environment IDs, and passes them to the builder. The set keeps its identity until its members change.
Scope and approval
This is a small, focused fix for an obvious bug: a collapsed shelf hides a thread whose state is unknown. It is related to #25449 and complements #25471. That PR relabels stale Working rows as Reconnecting/Offline and deliberately keeps shelf placement. This PR changes placement only, not labels, and is independent of it. Each lands on its own, and they don't conflict.
Mobile only. The web sidebar's Working section has the same placement question; it is left for a separate change if maintainers want it.
Verification
New test in threadListV2.test.ts, which fails on main: a running thread on a disconnected environment is listed outside the Working shelf, while working threads on a connected environment stay in it. A table test covers each connection phase in isThreadListV2EnvironmentDisconnected.
vp run check:changed passed on 57c5ad5698: format, lint, knip, typecheck (mobile and scripts), 78 focused tests across the thread-list and key-set suites, and React compiler checks. The phase table also covers connected shells awaiting synchronization and preserves the first connecting attempt exemption.
The iOS captures below are from bbd678e. Native verification has not been repeated for the latest head because Agent device access is disabled in this environment.
iOS Simulator (iPhone 17 Pro, iOS 27.0, dark), T3 Code Dev client on Metro, paired to an isolated dev server with its own .t3 state seeded from a copy of real data. Two real Codex turns were started that run sleep 900, so both threads were genuinely running and sat in the collapsed Working shelf. The dev server was then stopped mid-turn, so the app showed "Reconnecting to …". The same app and session were captured with main's threadListV2.ts and useThreadListV2.ts (left), then with this branch at bbd678e (right):
The rows still read "Working 8m". This PR changes placement only; #25471 replaces that label with Reconnecting/Offline.

Walkthrough
The mobile thread list identifies disconnected workspace environments and excludes their working threads from the Working shelf. Those threads follow the existing active-thread path. The thread-list hook uses a shared key-set hook for disconnected environment IDs and content-only thread keys.
The builder accepts disconnected environment IDs and excludes matching threads from the Working shelf. Tests cover the connection phases classified as disconnected and verify that a disconnected working thread remains listed.
The hook collects disconnected environment IDs from workspace environments and passes them to the builder. It also uses useKeySet for content-only thread keys.
The shared hook sorts and serializes keys to memoize a Set. The React test checks key preservation and set identity. Vite routes the test to the React project.

no changed behavior could be verified on this linux vm. i read the description, complete diff and review discussion at bbd678e3e28e534ee62cc78bec8ec9c0f84a3006. the pr is open and has no commits by juliusmarminge or t3dotgg. its scope is mobile shelf placement; row labels and timers are explicitly separate work.
the native device capability check returned Agent device access is turned off for this environment.timeout 20 adb devices -l listed no devices. capability-check transcript.
Not verified
main reproduction, the pr fix, and neighboring behavior remain unverified. this change runs in the native mobile home/sidebar list, not the web list, so a chrome session or server-only codex turn would not exercise it. the repository mobile verification skill requires stopping when device access is unavailable. no dev servers, provider turns, screenshots or recordings were produced; no code was changed or pushed.
verification still needs a native client: enable and collapse the Working shelf, start a real codex gpt-6.1-sol turn, disconnect its environment, confirm the thread leaves the shelf, reconnect and confirm the running thread returns. also check connected running threads stay shelved, first-connection hydration does not move cached threads, and shelf-disabled behavior remains unchanged. repeat the disconnect on main first.
stored ci reports 32 successful checks, zero failing or pending. that does not prove runtime behavior. result: unverifiable on this vm.
Verified on Android emulator (API 35) against a real dev server
tested head bbd678e3e28e534ee62cc78bec8ec9c0f84a3006 on the t3 android emulator with the matching cached development client, metro on port 8081, and an isolated dev server on port 13773. created a real project and two real codex gpt-6.1-sol turns through the local proxy; both executed long-running shell commands. no mocks or demo data.
reproduced the original bug using the two shelf modules from the pr's parent: after pausing the server until the client reported reconnecting, the running thread remained hidden in collapsed working (1).
restored the exact pr modules and restarted metro. the same cached running thread appeared in the inbox while the server remained unreachable.
repeated the disconnect with two running threads on the exact head. both left the collapsed shelf when reconnecting. resuming the server returned both to collapsed working (2); expanding it showed both running threads.
disabled the working section in settings. both threads stayed visible when connected and when reconnecting.
blacksmith: all 71 existing threadListV2.test.ts cases passed on the exact head. the new disconnected-thread case failed with the pre-fix modules. stored ci reports 32 successful checks, zero failing or pending.
no code changes or pushes were needed. the cached working labels remain unchanged, as intended by this placement-only pr.
Not verified
ios cannot run on this linux vm. a full current github/main checkout was not exercised; the before capture uses the pr parent's two shelf modules. simultaneous connected and disconnected environments, first-connection hydration, relay/tunnel routing, and the in-thread navigation sidebar were not exercised. this pass verifies the native android home list and reconnect behavior, not those additional paths.

Preserve newline-containing environment IDs in useKeySet.
EnvironmentId permits embedded newlines. useKeySet splits on "\n", so an ID such as a\nb becomes a and b. The builder then fails isDisconnected(thread) at threadListV2.ts:659. The working thread reaches the working branch at lines 710-716 and remains hidden when the Working shelf is collapsed.
Use a collision-free serialization for both useKeySet call sites:
