fix(web): threads on an unreachable environment no longer hide in the Working shelf - #26195
With the web/desktop sidebar's Working shelf on, a thread whose environment has stopped answering keeps the running state it had when the connection dropped. It stays folded into the collapsed Working shelf indefinitely, so a broken thread is hidden behind a section the user has no reason to open.
Repro: turn on the Working shelf and collapse it, start a turn on a remote environment, then make that host unreachable (power it off, or block its port). The thread stays in the collapsed shelf for as long as the host is down.
Change
partitionSidebarThreads (in Sidebar.tsx) now asks belongsInSidebarWorkingShelf (in Sidebar.logic.ts) whether a thread goes in the Working shelf. That check leaves a thread out when its environment is disconnected, so the thread is listed in the inbox where it can be seen. Once the environment reconnects and reports the thread running, it goes back into the shelf. Pinned, snoozed and settled threads keep their sections.
An environment counts as disconnected past a first connection attempt (reconnecting, offline, error, unsupported, available), the same rule mobile uses (threadRouteIsHydrating, and isThreadListV2EnvironmentDisconnected from https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/26008). A first connecting attempt keeps the cached state, so a cold start doesn't move every running thread out of the shelf and back. The rule lives in isSidebarEnvironmentDisconnected in Sidebar.logic.ts. useSidebarThreads builds the set of disconnected environment IDs from the existing environmentSummaries.environmentsAtom (exposed through a new useEnvironmentConnectionSummaries hook), whose identity only changes when a connection summary changes.
Web only (desktop wraps web). No contracts or server changes.
Verification
merged current main with a merge commit and preserved the contributor's implementation. no additional logic changes were needed. the diff remains four files, +86/-2.
vp run check:changed github/main passed on blacksmith: format, lint, knip, two affected typechecks, 138 tests, and three compiler checks. two independent read-only reviews approved 4f686d207256878fecc97b21c61e779071af75fb without new findings. the live-shell finding is addressed and resolved; all review threads are resolved.
verified with the real Replay (dev) provider and chrome client: a non-selected running thread sits in the collapsed Working shelf, becomes visible in Active after its environment socket is closed and the client goes offline, then receives the authoritative approval state after reconnect. pending stream frames were withheld to reproduce stale cached work. pinned/snoozed/settled behavior is covered by existing checks and source review. mobile and native desktop were not exercised; this is a web change shared by desktop. the accepted first-connecting-attempt exception remains.
verification by gpt-6.1-sol through the codex harness in t3 code.
Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Unreachable environments’ threads now appear in the active list instead of remaining hidden in Working. Working placement resumes only after the connection and shell snapshot are live, with no persistent-data changes.

Walkthrough
The sidebar now uses environment connection summaries and live shell IDs to identify disconnected environments. Threads from those environments do not qualify for the Working shelf.
The new helpers classify environment disconnection and determine Working-shelf membership. Tests cover connection phases, shell liveness, shelf enablement, and whether the thread’s own environment is disconnected.
A new hook reads environment connection summaries. The sidebar combines those summaries with live shell IDs to derive disconnected environment IDs, then uses them during thread partitioning.

… Working shelf
Past a first connection attempt an environment is not answering, so its
threads keep a stale running state. The sidebar now lists them in the inbox
instead of folding them into the Working shelf until the environment
reconnects. Pinned threads stay pinned. Mirrors the mobile fix in pingdotgg#26008.

@saphid, thanks for the focused placement fix and connection-phase coverage. I kept both original commits and merged current main without rebasing. I trimmed redundant comments and added the explicit disconnected-to-connected assertion. The final diff remains four files, 72 additions and 2 deletions.
Verification at 74385136c5222ece56f9ef57ad243b1009c5d6ed:
Reproduced the bug on main in the real web client: an unselected running thread stays hidden under collapsed Working after its WebSocket disconnects. With the fix, the same cached thread appears in the inbox.
Exercised disconnect and recovery through the real Replay (dev) provider and client RPC path in system Google Chrome. The recording also retains the pinned row and Snoozed/Settled shelves. No mocked thread state or product test controls were added.
Blacksmith: 74 focused sidebar tests passed. vp run check:changed passed format, lint, knip, both affected typechecks, all four selected test files (120 tests), and three selected React compiler checks. The original regression tests fail on main before applying the fix.
GitHub reports the final head clean, with all reported checks successful or intentionally skipped. Two independent reviewers approved this head. Cafe's mirror is still showing the previous head, so the final CI and bot review were read from GitHub.
Known low limit: explicit retry can temporarily restore cached placement during connecting; likewise, a connected socket can precede the refreshed authoritative shell. The latest bot note at Sidebar.tsx:627 describes that latter window correctly. Keeping disconnected rows excluded until shell synchronization would expand this placement fix into shared readiness behavior, so it remains a documented limit here. Ordinary disconnects no longer hide threads indefinitely. Cold-start behavior continues to match mobile.
Unverified: native desktop shell, mobile, and separate SSH/relay/tunnel connection modes. No adapters, contracts, or server behavior changed.

stopped main before starting the exact PR head. copied only this task's app-created development state to preserve the project/thread identities. the interrupted turn resumed through Codex on the PR server.
on this head, disconnecting Chrome moves the same running thread into the inbox. also blocked the actual backend port with an iptables REJECT rule while navigator.onLine stayed true: the thread remained visible during reconnecting. removed the rule, confirmed the still-running thread returned to Working, then watched the real assistant reply CONNECTION RECOVERY COMPLETE and the completed thread return to the inbox.
neighboring behavior: the pinned control stayed pinned through disconnect/recovery; a manually settled thread stayed in Settled while disconnected.
Blacksmith: vp test run apps/web/src/components/Sidebar.logic.test.ts passed all 74 tests. GitHub's reported checks on this head are passing or intentionally skipped.

native Electron, macOS/Windows, iOS/Android, other providers, and SSH/relay/tunnel deployments were not exercised on this Linux web setup. no artificially delayed shell snapshot or explicit-retry synchronization race was exercised; the previously discussed connecting/snapshot readiness window remains outside this verification. this pass verifies ordinary offline/reconnecting placement and real-provider recovery, not that narrower race.

This is a small, focused fix for an obvious bug: a collapsed shelf hides a thread whose state is unknown. It is the web counterpart of https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/26008, which made the same placement change on mobile, and relates to https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/issues/25449.
It complements https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/25471, which relabels stale Working rows as Reconnecting/Offline on web and mobile and deliberately keeps shelf placement. This PR changes placement only, not labels or timers, and is independent of it: either can land first. I checked with
git merge-treeagainst https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/25471's head: this diff adds no conflicts. The only conflict (the first import line ofSidebar.logic.ts) already exists betweenmainand https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/25471.Web only (desktop wraps web). No contracts or server changes.
