Implements the approved dashboard redesign: monochrome shell with a mobile layout, scrolling page headers, the new Overview with a Telegram users chart, restyled tables, per-page layouts and dialogs.

Design: https://claude.ai/artifact/JBhezk8CnboVP5HuT5qqVi

Depends on PoliNetworkOrg/backend#68 for the Overview chart (see "Chart data"). Everything else works with the current backend.

Scope

  • Shell: monochrome rail icons (no branded logos anywhere), logo links to Overview with active ring, accent dot on Reports while reports are open; 240px panel with 38px items; below 760px a top bar, section pills and a bottom nav replace the panel sheet; page headers (h1 + one line of context + primary action, toolbar row below) scroll with the page; deep pages get a back button and breadcrumb
  • Tables: 52px rows, monochrome row actions (danger tint only on hover), "Not shared" as an amber badge, stacked cards on mobile (each value keeps its column name for screen readers), new pagination
  • Overview: big search, hero card (Telegram users total + chart with 3M/1Y/All, Telegram groups / Open reports / Active grants), "Needs attention" removed, Areas grid with whole-card links and 44px section buttons
  • Overview chart data: Telegram users over time from created_at
  • Telegram: users, groups, grants, user detail (messages and grants side by side, audit log full width)
  • WhatsApp: groups
  • Microsoft 365: groups (boxed add/remove member buttons), members
  • Web: projects (inline edit card), associations, freshman guide (latest edition card), FAQs (category list / pills), labels sections, categories (root cards with sub-category chips) and category page
  • Reports: open (labelled Dismiss/Resolve), closed
  • Account: permissions grouped by service
  • Dialogs: restyled titles, descriptions, danger confirm buttons, bottom-sheet look on mobile
  • docs/design.md updated to the new rules
  • Review fixes (independent reviews + CodeRabbit), see below
  • Verified: pnpm check, pnpm typecheck, pnpm test, pnpm build; screenshots at 1440 and 390 in both themes

What changed

Shell (src/components/shell)

  • Rail (64px): the PoliNetwork logo is the link to Overview (accent ring when active); the separate Overview item is gone. Search, the five services as lucide icons (Send, MessageCircle, Cloud, Globe, Flag), theme toggle and avatar. Active service: muted fill + 3px accent bar. Reports shows an accent dot while reports are open. ServiceGlyph, PanelSheet and the Telegram/WhatsApp/Azure SVGs are removed; PlatformGlyph is monochrome too.
  • Panel: 240px (200px below 1100px), 64px header with icon + title, 38px items, accent icon and left bar on the current item, open-reports count as a small accent pill.
  • Below 760px (shell: / max-shell: Tailwind breakpoint): top bar (logo → Overview, service title, search, theme, avatar), the service's sections as scrolling pills, sticky bottom nav with the five services (short labels, "M365").
  • PageBar is now the page header: h1 (section title by default) + description context line + actions (40px; full width on mobile), then the left toolbar row. Header and content scroll together inside one per-page scroll container. Deep pages: back button + "Section / context" breadcrumb. ScrollTitle is removed. Every route's pending state renders the same header.
  • Command palette: with a query it offers "Find “…” in Telegram › Users / Groups, WhatsApp › Groups" (sections marked queryable in nav.ts, which read ?q=; Telegram users gained ?q=, and the page follows a new ?q= while open).

Primitives: DataTable (52px rows, 14px cells, visible Actions header, 12px radius, stacked cards below 760px via column.mobile, container-query column hiding only from 760px), TablePaginationBar, IconButton (monochrome; boxed appearance replaces tinted), SegmentedControl and SearchField (40px, / hint), RecordHeader (28px h1, badge), SectionCard/SectionHeading (mono counts), InlineEditCard (accent border + ring, labelled fields, Cancel/Save text buttons with shortcut hints), TranslationPanel (IT/EN tag in view, labelled field box in edit), dialogs.

Pages

  • Overview: see Chart data; Areas cards link to the same target as the rail icon (serviceHref is now in the shell context). StatTile and the attention list are removed, and the overview no longer loads all Microsoft 365 groups just to count small ones. Counts and history load in parallel.
  • Telegram: context lines; users with initials avatars and "No username"; grants status column after the user; user detail with avatar, "Grant active" badge, copyable Telegram ID, messages and grants side by side (grants as cards, scheduled ones dashed), audit log full width.
  • WhatsApp: "WhatsApp groups" with the service icon tile (single-section services have no panel).
  • Microsoft 365: groups with 60px rows, mono emails, boxed add/remove buttons (remove tints danger on hover); members with avatars, mono emails and a 40px "Members only" toggle.
  • Web: projects (48px logo, title + short link, IT/EN under the title, inline edit as in the mockup), freshman guide (latest edition card + "All editions"), FAQs (category list beside the questions, pills below 1100px, category header with its actions and search), labels (section headings), categories (root cards with sub-category chips and group counts; the route now also loads the groups for those counts).
  • Reports: "Open reports" / "Closed reports" with context; labelled ghost "Dismiss" and outline "Resolve".
  • Account: permissions grouped by area with the service icon.
  • Dialogs: 18px titles, 14px descriptions, 14px radius, icon tile on confirmations (danger-tinted; Leave group and End grant use their own icons), buttons side by side, bottom sheets below 760px.

Chart data

Depends on PoliNetworkOrg/backend#68, which must be merged, released and deployed for the chart to appear.

  • The Telegram users chart plots the cumulative number of users by tg.users.created_at. created_at exists in the backend database, but no procedure returned it (tg.users.getAll strips it), and the BFF only reaches the database through the backend API. feat(tg): count Telegram users per creation day backend#68 adds tg.users.getCreationHistory: read-only, dashboard("tg:users:read") like getAll and token-only like every new procedure, returning one { date, count } per Europe/Rome day with new users. No user data is transferred or decrypted.
  • Admin side: getTelegramUserHistory (GET server function with adminMiddleware, returns forbidden without tg:users:read) calls it and parses the output with zod. The Overview loader starts it alongside the counts and streams it; growthSeries accumulates and buckets the days in the browser: per day for 3M, per week for 1Y, per month for All, so the range control changes the actual series. "+N in 3/12 months" counts exactly the users created after the same day 3 or 12 months earlier, through today, and the buckets add up to it (the first 1Y week is cut at the range start). Axis and tooltip use fixed month names (no ICU differences); month ticks name the year on January when a range spans two years, and spans over two years label years. Y-axis ticks come from growthAxis (steps of 1, 2, 2.5 or 5 × 10ⁿ; plain numbers below 100k, compact with as many decimals as the step needs above), so adjacent labels never repeat. Unit tests: tests/user-growth.test.mjs.
  • Chart: TanStack Charts, @tanstack/react-charts 1.1.0 with its core @tanstack/charts 1.1.0 (the definition API — defineChart, lineY, scales, tooltip, crosshair — lives in the core package, which the React package depends on). 1.1.0 is a recent release (published 9 Oct 2026), so both are pinned exactly. The core brings d3-* modules (d3-scale, d3-shape, d3-array, …) transitively; the chart itself only uses the core's compact linear scale (a linear x axis over day timestamps with explicit month ticks), and no other chart library is added. One 2px accent line, light grid, month labels, distinct y labels, dashed hover guide and a tooltip with the bucket's date, total and growth. Paints are CSS variables, so both themes work without rebuilding the chart.
  • The hero total comes from tg.users.getAll, which drops users that fail to decrypt, while the chart counts every row by created_at, so the chart's last value can be slightly higher than the total. Left as is.
  • Types and fallback: this repo pins the published @polinetwork/backend (^1.4.0), which does not have the procedure yet. Until the backend release that includes Report new feature & roadmap #68 (semantic-release will publish it as a minor from the feat commit), the call goes through a narrow typed view of the client with a SAFETY: note, and the result is parsed. A backend without the procedure answers NOT_FOUND; because the procedure is token-only, agent mode (which calls the backend anonymously) gets UNAUTHORIZED. Both fall back to the users total and the side stats without the chart. Follow-up once released: bump @polinetwork/backend and call context.backend.tg.users.getCreationHistory.query() directly.

docs/design.md

Rewritten where the redesign changes the rules: principles (h1 + context line on every page, no multicolor logos), the shell section (new diagrams for desktop and mobile, rail/panel/top bar/pills/bottom nav, page header instead of header bar, palette search), templates (52px rows and stacked cards with column names for screen readers, record and Overview templates, pending headers), tokens (radii, type scale, chart paints; the --pn-action-* row is gone with the tokens), components (tables, monochrome row actions, "Not shared" badge, 40px header/toolbar controls, dialogs with icon tiles and bottom sheets, inline-edit footer, bilingual text), motion (bottom sheet, chart) and page notes (Overview and its chart fallback, FAQs, Freshman guide, Categories, Reports dot, Account).

Review fixes

Round 1

  • Telegram users follow a new ?q= while the page is open (palette "Find …" on the same page); back to page 1. (CodeRabbit thread resolved.)
  • Stacked mobile cards: each value after the first carries its column name as visually hidden text; native table semantics, no added roles. (CodeRabbit thread resolved.)
  • Overview: counts and history start in parallel; growth spans exactly the labelled range; month arithmetic clamps (31 Dec − 3 months = 30 Sep); consistent month names and year-aware ticks; UNAUTHORIZED → chart fallback.
  • Shell: the slide offset uses the same (width < 1100px) breakpoint as the panel width; one "{Service} sections" landmark (the aside is unlabelled); PendingReportsCount is module-private.
  • FAQs: a single "Add category" when there are no categories; the disabled "Add FAQ" header button is 40px like the others.

Round 2

  • Y axis: labels no longer repeat on narrow ranges (they read "1.3k, 1.3k" before); explicit ticks and domain from growthAxis, with a unit test over narrow ranges at several magnitudes.
  • 1Y: the first weekly bucket starts at the range boundary instead of a week before its end, its label is clamped to that boundary, and a test checks the buckets add up to "+N in 12 months". (CodeRabbit thread resolved.)
  • docs/design.md: rewrapped the stacked-cards paragraph to the file's ~120 columns.

Review fixes › Round 3

  • New grant: filled full-width mobile date fields, duration shortcuts on their own row, Change user inside the user card, and an always-visible Optional · n/500 hint below the reason.
  • Telegram / WhatsApp labels filter: mobile bottom sheet with focus trapping, compact selected chips, one include/exclude tree open at a time, and a reachable Clear label filters / group-count footer.
  • Microsoft 365 membership dialogs: shared 18px titles naming the group; radio, avatar and name in each row, with a monospace email below and independent wrapping.
  • Overview chart: tap pins the tooltip and dashed crosshair, only keyboard focus draws the app ring, and the final point has a marker. The chart remains 200px high on mobile. Creation history accepts a validated array of daily counts as well as the existing result envelope; the temporary typed client remains until backend Report new feature & roadmap #68 is released.
  • Freshman guide / category: compact mobile edition rows and 36px PDF links; 28px category title, dotted subcategory cards with counts below their names, and full-width search below Groups n.
  • Associations: 17px semibold titles, IT/EN tags beside their text, and a divided footer with the link count left and Manage links right; edit/delete stay in the header.
  • Reports: mobile closed status/issue at the top right with no empty-details dash; desktop columns Reference, Status, Issue, Details, Date; monospace report links and an icon for Missing group. Duplicate-count badges stay inside the row.
  • Polish and accessibility: mobile project handles hidden and links wrap; fixed English month names (1 Sep); neutral selected FAQ pills; mobile pagination, segments/ranges, copying IDs/tags and tree expanders have at least 36px targets. Overview search text meets AA in light mode.
  • Existing work retained: DM Sans, light canvas/surface/panel tokens, Telegram Tag column and neutral label chips, mobile M365 license cards, Telegram grant cards, and user-detail audit/actions. Overview and Account desktop titles already align with the mockup (about 34px from the top); compact user actions and the inline Grant active badge were confirmed in screenshots.
  • CodeRabbit follow-up: retain the public-link count for editors, pluralize the filter group count, and use formatted label names in remove-button accessible labels; review threads addressed.
  • Updated docs/design.md with light surfaces, label chips, touch targets, dialog/picker layouts and page-specific rules. No mockup files committed; only new Conventional Commits, without rewriting the branch.

Verification

  • All four commands passed before every push, including final commit 0b826db: pnpm check (0 errors, 25 existing warnings), pnpm typecheck, pnpm test (39 pass, 3 integration tests skipped without their external services), pnpm build.
  • Final CI: Typecheck and Lint passes. All three new CodeRabbit findings were fixed, replied to and resolved; no unresolved threads. The latest CodeRabbit status passes with a review-rate-limit notice.
  • Playwright with preinstalled Chromium, AGENT_MODE=true, port 15332 and a local tRPC mock using superjson/batched request envelopes. Fictional Telegram users/groups/grants/audit/messages, WhatsApp groups, Microsoft 365 groups/members/licenses, all Web content and reports, plus daily creation-history arrays.
  • 19 pages at 390px (mobile + touch) and 1440px, dark and light: 76 page cases. Top and bottom screenshots checked against the approved mockup/ images and source HTML; no horizontal scroll or unreachable content behind bottom navigation. Existing accepted deviations retained.
  • Light-mode axe color-contrast checks: 38 page cases, no violations after fixing Overview search text; dialog and inline-edit checks likewise have no contrast violations. Mobile pagination, segments, copying IDs/tags: 132 measured targets, all at least 36×36px. PDF links and label-tree expanders also use 36px targets.
  • Dialogs and inline edits checked in both sizes/themes: grant lookup/details/end, group labels/filter/leave, WhatsApp add/edit/delete, M365 creation/add/remove/confirmation, guide publish/delete, association links/edit/delete/draft, FAQ categories/edit/delete/draft, category/subcategory and group pickers, attributes/publications/rename/publish, project edit/delete/draft. Filter checks include opening the second tree; chart checks include touch tooltip/crosshair, latest marker, 200px height, and keyboard focus with the app's 2px focus-visible ring.
  • Backend Report new feature & roadmap #68 is still open. The published @polinetwork/backend 1.4.3 tarball was inspected and does not contain getCreationHistory, so the dependency and temporary typed client stay until that release exists.

Known gaps and deviations

  • The chart needs feat(tg): count Telegram users per creation day backend#68 deployed (and a package bump to drop the typed view).
  • Labels: attributes and publications stay as editable rows (inline edit, delete, publish actions) instead of the mockup's attribute chips with group counts and "n groups waiting · Review & publish" rows; the chips would lose the per-label actions.
  • Telegram user: the ongoing grant card shows From/Until only, because tg.grants.checkUser returns neither reason nor grantor.
  • The Overview search is a button that opens the command palette, so it shows the palette shortcut (⌘K / Ctrl K) instead of the mockup's "/". The palette finds pages and searches Telegram users, Telegram groups and WhatsApp groups; Microsoft 365 members are not searchable from there yet (their page has no ?q=).
  • Hero total vs chart: see Chart data (users that fail to decrypt).
  • Re-running the same palette search after clearing the field does not refill it (the URL does not change); this matches the group pages.
  • Inline-edit fields in bilingual panels are labelled "Italian" / "English" rather than "Italian description".

…tom nav

The rail drops the branded service logos for monochrome lucide icons, the
PoliNetwork logo becomes the link to Overview (with an active ring), and
Reports gets an accent dot while reports are open. The panel grows to 240px
with 38px items and an accent indicator.

Below 760px the panel sheet is replaced by a top bar (logo, service title,
search, theme, account), the service's sections as scrolling pills and a
bottom nav with the five services.

Page headers now scroll with the page: PageBar renders the h1 with one line
of context and the actions, then the toolbar row; deep pages show a back
button and a breadcrumb.

Walkthrough

The dashboard refresh changes shell navigation, page headers, mobile table layouts, and shared controls. It adds a streamed Telegram user-history chart to the overview and updates layouts and content across service pages.

Changes

Dashboard refresh

Layer / File(s) Summary
Shell navigation and page headers
src/components/shell/*, src/routes/dashboard/*, src/features/telegram/users-page.tsx, src/components/route-error.tsx, src/styles.css, docs/design.md
The shell adds mobile top and bottom navigation, section pills, and query-aware command-palette search. Page headers replace the former compact navigation and scroll-title layouts. Pending routes now include page headers. Telegram user search can receive its initial query from ?q=.
Responsive data tables
src/components/primitives/data-table.tsx, src/components/primitives/table-pagination.tsx, src/components/primitives/skeletons.tsx, src/components/primitives/container-hide.ts, src/features/*, docs/design.md
Tables support mobile stacked-card layouts and column roles, with screen-reader context for non-first-column values. Pagination, skeletons, and hide thresholds use responsive sizing.
Overview user-growth chart
src/features/dashboard/*, src/routes/dashboard/index.tsx, tests/user-growth.test.mjs, package.json, docs/design.md
The overview loads Telegram user history as a promise and renders a growth chart with selectable ranges. The server function validates backend history responses and returns permission, availability, and error statuses. Tests cover series generation and chart-axis calculations.
Shared controls and visual patterns
src/components/primitives/*, src/components/telegram/*, src/styles.css, src/lib/format.ts, package.json, docs/design.md
Shared controls and dialogs receive layout and styling updates. Inline editing, label chips, translation panels, date formatting, and theme tokens also change. Chart dependencies are added.
Service-page layouts and content
src/features/*, src/routes/dashboard/*, docs/design.md
Service pages update counts, descriptions, filtering, category and FAQ navigation, account permissions, Telegram detail views, grants, and reports. The guides page adds a latest-edition card; project, association, and category views also receive layout updates.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to dcd4f

Microsoft 365 members can still be searched from their page, but not from the advertised palette search. On mobile, screen-reader users may lack context for the first table value. These are bounded usability and accessibility gaps; the merge risk is low.

DataTable rows grow to 52px with 14px cells, a visible Actions header and
a 12px radius. Below 760px every row becomes a stacked card: the first
column on its own line, the others inline as meta, the actions below.
Column hiding by container width now applies from the shell breakpoint only.

Row actions are monochrome ghost icons that tint only on hover (danger,
success, warning); a visible group's eye is accent. The tinted appearance
is replaced by a bordered "boxed" one, and "Not shared" is an amber badge.
Pagination drops the first/last buttons and collapses to "‹ 1 of 34 ›"
on narrow tables; segmented controls and the search field are 40px with a
"/" hint.

claude added 10 commits October 12, 2026 00:19
The Overview opens with a big search that opens the command palette, then a
hero card: the Telegram users total with its growth over the chosen range,
a TanStack Charts line of users over time (3M per day, 1Y per week, All per
month) and Telegram groups, Open reports and Active grants as links. The
"Needs attention" list is removed. Areas are cards whose whole surface
leads where the service's rail icon does, with 44px section buttons.

The series comes from `getTelegramUserHistory`, a read server function over
the backend's new `tg.users.getCreationHistory` (PoliNetworkOrg/backend#68):
per-day counts from `created_at`, accumulated and bucketed in the browser.
The procedure is newer than the pinned @polinetwork/backend types, so it is
called through a narrow typed view and its output is parsed; until the
backend ships it, the hero shows the total without the chart.

The command palette can now search: "Find “…” in Telegram › Groups" opens
any section that reads `?q=` with that query.

Users, Groups and Grants get their page header context ("680 groups
managed by the bot", the people the bot has seen, what grants are for).
Users show initials avatars and "No username", accept `?q=` so the command
palette can search them, and the Grants status column follows the user.
The labels filter is a 40px toolbar button.

The user detail shows a 64px avatar, a "Grant active" badge and a copyable
Telegram ID, then recent messages and grants side by side (grants as cards,
scheduled ones dashed) with the audit log full width below.

Every section's loading state now renders its page header, so the title
does not jump in when the data arrives.

WhatsApp has a single section and no panel, so its page header shows the
service icon next to "WhatsApp groups" and the count of groups registered
by hand. On mobile the labels take their own line in the group cards.

Microsoft 365 groups show "n groups · n memberships" in the header, 60px
rows with the mail in DM Mono, the member count after the avatars and
boxed add/remove member buttons (remove tints danger on hover). Members
show initials avatars, mono emails, a 40px "Members only" toggle and the
member and license totals in the header; the toolbar count appears only
while a search or the toggle narrows the list.

Every Web section gets its header context. Shared pieces follow the new
cards: inline-edit cards edit with an accent border and ring, labelled
fields and "Cancel / Save" text buttons with their shortcuts, and bilingual
text shows a small IT/EN tag in view and a labelled field-like box in edit.

- Projects: 48px logo, title and short link in the card header, the IT/EN
  descriptions aligned under the title.
- Freshman guide: a "Latest edition" card with its download above the
"All editions" table and its search.
- FAQs: the category select becomes a list beside the questions (pills
below 1100px) with "Add category"; the category header holds its edit and
delete actions and the question search.
- Categories: each root is a card that opens it, with its first
sub-categories as chips carrying their group counts.
- Section headings are 17px with a DM Mono count.

Open and Closed reports are titled as such, with one line on what they hold.
Open rows act through labelled buttons: a ghost "Dismiss" and an outline
"Resolve", instead of two unlabelled icons.

Dialog titles are 18px with 14px descriptions and a 14px panel radius.
Confirmations show an icon tile before the title (danger-tinted for
destructive ones: a warning sign by default, Leave group and End grant use
their own icons) and are 460px wide. Footers keep Cancel and the primary
side by side at every width. Below 760px every dialog is a bottom sheet:
full width, rounded top, sliding up.

Update the design rules to the redesign: page headers with an h1 and a
context line, the monochrome rail with the logo as the way to Overview,
the 240px panel, the mobile top bar, section pills and bottom nav, 52px
tables that stack into cards, monochrome row actions, the Overview hero
and chart, the record and FAQ layouts, dialogs with icon tiles and bottom

The command palette's "Find … in Telegram › Users" changes ?q= without remounting the page; the search now follows it and returns to page 1, as the group lists do.

"+N in 12 months" and "in 3 months" now count the users created after the same day 12 or 3 months earlier through today, instead of up to a week (or a day) more. Month arithmetic clamps to the target month's last day. Axis and tooltip labels come from fixed month names ("Sep", not ICU's "Sept"), and month ticks name the year on January when the range spans two years. The tests no longer depend on the ICU version.

tg.users.getCreationHistory is token-only, and agent mode calls the backend anonymously; UNAUTHORIZED now falls back to the total without the chart, like a backend that predates the procedure (NOT_FOUND).

The slide offset reads (width < 1100px), the same breakpoint as the panel's max-[1100px] width, so they agree at exactly 1100px. The panel's aside no longer repeats the nav's "{Service} sections" name, and PendingReportsCount is module-private.

With no categories, writers get "Add category" only at the end of the category list, not again in the empty state. The disabled "Add FAQ" sits inside its hint's wrapper, so it sets the header's 40px height itself.

Below 760px the header row is hidden, so every value after the first carries its column name as visually hidden text (shown only in the stacked layout). The table keeps its native semantics; no ARIA table roles are added.

…range start

The y axis used compact labels with one decimal, so ticks under 100 apart repeated ("1.3k, 1.3k"). growthAxis now picks about four ticks every 1, 2, 2.5 or 5 × 10ⁿ users and an explicit domain; below 100k the labels are plain numbers ("13,325"), above they are compact with as many decimals as the step needs, so adjacent ticks always differ.

In 1Y the first weekly bucket was measured from a week before its end, so it could count users created before the range start that the "+N in 12 months" figure excludes. Every range now measures its first bucket from the range start, the first 1Y label is clamped to it, and the buckets add up to the range's growth (tested).

Light pages sit on #f6f7f9 with white cards and bars, the panel and section pills on #fbfcfd, and wells (message quotes, grant cards, bilingual edit boxes) on a new --pn-sunken (#f9fafc light, #0d141a dark). A new --pn-panel separates the panel from the rail in both themes. Hero stat hover is visible in light, and a page header without context or actions no longer reserves 56px, so Overview and Account start at the top.

Title, tag and labels claimed more width than the table has at 1440px, so the Tag column hid. Their budgets now match the design's columns (Group, Telegram ID, Tag, Labels, Actions all shown).

Use one content width and one rail active treatment across the dashboard. Replace native title tooltips with themed hints and align label overlays below their triggers. Keep action hover borders blue and opt out of Dark Reader recoloring because the app already owns its light and dark palettes.
Mixing near-gray colors in oklch gives them a missing hue that Chrome renders as red, which caused the red hovers. Every color mix now uses oklab (enforced by a test), and every hover uses one faint brand tint (--pn-hover) and a half-strength hover border instead of the solid accent.

Projects drag from anywhere on the card. Chip lists show only chips that fit, hints that repeat visible text open only when it is truncated, page-header menus match the 40px actions, the theme icon is right before hydration, and FAQ rows, card headers and table action headers line up.
