🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Include error.NoSpaceLeft in the decode error sets.
If a custom msgpackRead calls Unpacker.readStringInto or Unpacker.readArrayInto, its inferred error set includes error.NoSpaceLeft. Neither new error set includes that error. As a result, using either decode or a slice decoder with that type fails to compile, even when the supplied buffer is large enough. Add NoSpaceLeft to SliceDecodeError, which also supplies it to DecodeError. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

decode and decodeLeaky returned inferred error sets, made of whatever the reader and each type's unpacker happened to produce. They now fail with DecodeError, and the slice functions with SliceDecodeError, which leaves out the reader's failures: a slice cannot fail to read, and a value too big for its buffer, which is the whole slice, is a slice that ends too soon. That last one used to come back as ReaderBufferTooSmall when a slice ended inside an integer wider than what was left of it.

Recursion through a pointer to a struct or union went through a function returning anyerror, to break the inferred error set's dependency on itself (#53). anyerror does not coerce to the explicit DecodeError, so decoding a recursive type no longer compiled. Return DecodeError there instead; the pack side has no explicit set yet and keeps anyerror. The existing recursive test went through unpackAny directly, so add one through decodeFromSlice.

decode, decodeLeakyand the slice variants returned inferred error sets: whatever the reader and each type's unpacker happened to produce, with the reader's errors passed through as they came. They now fail with explicit, public sets:DecodeErrorfordecode/decodeLeaky(a reader).SliceDecodeErrorfordecodeFromSlice/decodeFromSliceLeaky: the same withoutReadFailedandReaderBufferTooSmall, which a slice can't have.DecodeErrorisSliceDecodeErrorplus those two.Meaning of the errors
EndOfStream: the message wasn't all there, because the input ended before it began or in the middle of it. Decoding expects a whole message; whether more messages might follow is the caller's question, answered by peeking before the call, so a sequence that ends cleanly stops the loop, and a last message cut short is still an error rather than a silent end.ReadFailed: the reader failed, and its own error says why.Fix
A slice that ended inside an integer wider than what was left of it (e.g. a
u64with 5 bytes remaining) came back asReaderBufferTooSmall, becausetakeIntcompares against the reader's buffer, and a slice's buffer is the whole slice. It'sEndOfStreamnow, like any other truncated message.Compatibility
A custom
msgpackReadhas to fail withinDecodeError. It does whenever it reads through the unpacker it's given; one returning errors of its own would need to use one of these (e.g.InvalidFormat). The set was checked by decoding into a range of destination types, including an.as_taggedunion and a custommsgpackRead, which is howTaggedUnionUnsupportedFieldTypewas found to belong in it.Tests
Truncated slices (empty, inside a string, inside an integer, and the short-integer case above, which fails without the fix), a failing reader, and the sequence loop with both a clean end and a cut-off last message.
