Repository navigation
feat: gather every commit about a GitHub repository on its own page - #1176
People talk about projects here all the time. Someone ships a release, someone hits a bug in an issue, someone links a PR they liked. Right now there's no way to see all of that for one project. You'd have to search and hope.
This adds a page for every public GitHub repository at /github/{owner}/{repo}, e.g. /github/laravel/framework. It gathers every commit and reply that links to the repository, or to anything in it (an issue, a PR, a file, a .git clone URL), newest first. The header shows the name, description and star count from GitHub, plus how many commits and people mention it.
It's a sibling of the /links prototype, but keyed on the repository instead of the link card. Any GitHub link in the body counts, not only the one that got the card.
Screenshots
/github/laravel/framework locally, as a guest. The commits are seeded test data with a neutral avatar; the description and stars come live from GitHub.

Changes
RepositoryController@show on a public route next to profiles and commits, so guests and crawlers can read it like the rest of the public pages. The route only accepts names GitHub allows, and rejects ./...
RepositoryCommitsQuery matches commit bodies with a case-insensitive Postgres regex: github.com/{owner}/{repo}, ending where the name ends.
laravel/framework doesn't match laravel/framework-docs or notgithub.com/laravel/framework.
A closing period, a path, an issue number or .git after the name still count.
It uses the usual visibleTo and withoutMutedAuthorsFor, so pending content stays with its author and moderators, and mutes and blocks filter both the feed and the counts.
GitHubRepositoryQuery fetches the name, description and stars, and keeps only those three fields.
Cached for a day. A private or deleted repo (404) is cached as "no details"; a GitHub failure is remembered for 5 minutes, so an outage doesn't call GitHub on every view.
Commits still list without the header details.
A GIN trigram index on commits.body, so the regex uses a bitmap index scan instead of reading every commit (checked with EXPLAIN on 50k rows).
No new table and nothing stored about anyone: the page is derived from commits that already exist.
A Repository pages section in the knowledge base.
Validation
Local, PHP 8.5, PostgreSQL 18 with pgvector and pg_trgm:
vendor/bin/pest --parallel --ci --coverage --exactly=100.0: the full run could not complete locally. It stops at a Pest\Exceptions\DatasetMissing in tests/Feature/ScheduledCommitsTest.php ("rejects invalid times and bodies"), which fails the same way on an untouched upstream/production checkout, so it predates this change. Hosted CI is the source of truth here. Run separately with coverage, the new tests give RepositoryController, RepositoryCommitsQuery and GitHubRepositoryQuery 100% line coverage (7/7, 16/16, 15/15).
matching: case, trailing period, .git, issue/PR paths, replies, and the -docs, .js and notgithub.com lookalikes;
ordering;
visibility and counts for blocked, muted and pending authors, plus the viewer's own pending commit;
GitHub 404 and 500 caching (one request across two views);
route name constraints.
Manually in Chromium on desktop against seeded commits: /github/laravel/framework shows the live GitHub header and only the matching commits, and a lookalike repo's commit stays out.
Independent review
A separate reviewer did a read-only review of base 3966f168 against this branch, including a scratch Postgres check of the regex and index use. The first pass was FAIL on one point: the counts ignored mutes and blocks. That's fixed, along with the ./.. route names, .git URLs, the missing left boundary and the TTL constants. The re-review of this revision is PASS.
Limitations
The index is created with a plain CREATE INDEX, like the existing trigram indexes. That blocks writes to commits while it builds. If commits is large enough for that to matter, I can switch it to CREATE INDEX CONCURRENTLY in a non-transactional migration.
The counts run two indexed queries per view and aren't cached. Easy to add if views grow.
The page is reached by its URL only. Repo links in commits still open GitHub. Making the owner/repo chips link here, or adding a small "on /dev/null" link next to them, would be a follow-up once the page feels right.
Only GitHub for now. GitLab and Codeberg could follow the same pattern.
No mobile device testing: this is a new read-only page built from the existing feed components.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
View public repository pages at /github/{owner}/{repo} with linked commits, contributor and commit counts, and available GitHub repository details.
Browse commits newest first, with pagination and visibility rules applied. Repository links are matched case-insensitively, including .git clone URLs.
GitHub descriptions and star counts may be unavailable for private or deleted repositories or during service interruptions.
Documentation
Added a knowledge base section describing repository pages and their contents.
Adds /github/{owner}/{repo}, listing every visible commit and reply that links to the repository or anything in it, newest first, with its GitHub name, description and stars. Bodies are matched with a regex backed by a new trigram index on commits.body.
Adds a public /github/{owner}/{repository} page. It displays cached GitHub metadata, visible matching commits, commit and contributor counts, and a paginated commit feed.

Summary
Route and repository data routes/web.php, app/Queries/RepositoryCommitsQuery.php, app/Queries/GitHubRepositoryQuery.php, app/Http/Controllers/RepositoryController.php, database/migrations/*, tests/Feature/Controllers/RepositoryControllerTest.php
The route validates repository names and sends requests to the controller. The queries match linked commits, apply visibility and muted-author filters, calculate statistics, and retrieve cached GitHub metadata. The controller supplies a 20-commit cursor-paginated feed. The migration adds a trigram index on commit bodies. Feature tests cover matching, visibility, ordering, metadata failures, caching, and invalid names.
The page displays repository details, available statistics, and a repository-specific commit feed. The knowledge base documents the page and its matching and metadata behavior.

Merge Risk: Low · up to b0914
The new repository pages work as described. Before merging, build the commit-body index concurrently so deployment does not block commit writes, and make the link matcher require github.com as the URL host. Neither issue is severe, but both are cheap to fix.
Security architecture risk: Moderate · up to b0914
Repository identifiers are constrained and commit visibility checks are preserved. However, anonymous requests for different repositories can consume a shared GitHub request budget also used for profile and SSH-key synchronization. Per-repository caching does not contain that cross-feature exposure, and production traffic controls remain unverified.
Retained concerns
Medium · security · inferred: The new anonymous endpoint lets an unauthenticated requester generate GitHub calls by varying valid owner/repository keys. Its cache limits repeated keys, not total consumption. Because these calls use the same default GitHub client as profile and SSH-key synchronization, quota exhaustion can disrupt security-relevant synchronization across users sharing that credential. This is a new exposure compared with the base; actual disruption depends on deployment controls and quota headroom.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — No account is required to exercise the new outbound-request surface. The maximum supported cross-feature scope is the GitHub budget shared by callers using the same configured app credential, including profile and SSH-key synchronization across users. The evidence does not establish private-repository access, credential disclosure, or direct authority to mutate SSH keys.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
inferred — A requester can vary syntactically valid, previously uncached repository identifiers to trigger one outbound lookup per key. Negative caching does not stop this pattern, and no application-level limit or shared-budget circuit breaker was found on this path. Exhausting the shared quota could make synchronization requests fail; production edge controls and actual exhaustion remain unverified.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The inspected route declarations contain one binding to RepositoryController, with constrained owner and repository segments. Those values enter a fixed GitHub API path, not credential selection. Viewer identity is separately supplied to feed and count queries. These controls narrow the supplied route and destination proof gaps, without establishing production routing or intermediary behavior.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
inferred — Previously fetched public metadata can remain visible until its one-day cache entry expires after a repository becomes private or disappears. Concurrent misses can also race between successful and negative results. Values remain limited to the three-field contract or null; whether historically public metadata requires faster withdrawal is an unresolved policy question, not a verified private-data disclosure finding.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Bound anonymous lookup consumption across distinct repository keys and reserve or isolate outbound capacity for identity and SSH-key synchronization. A budget-aware circuit breaker can contain quota exhaustion; coalescing concurrent misses would complement, but not replace, that aggregate control.

Match the GitHub host, not a path component.
If a commit contains https://evil.example/github.com/laravel/framework, the slash before github.com satisfies this prefix condition. The commit then appears on /github/laravel/framework even though its link points to another host. Require github.com to be the URL host, and add this case to the matching tests.

When using PostgreSQL or SQL Server, you may chain the `online` method onto an index definition to create the index without locking the table, allowing your application to continue reading and writing data during index creation:
$table->string('email')->unique()->online();
When using PostgreSQL, this adds the `CONCURRENTLY` option to the index creation statement. When using SQL Server, this adds the `WITH (online = on)` option.
### Renaming Indexes
To rename an index, you may use the `renameIndex` method provided by the schema builder blueprint. This method accepts the current index name as its first argument and the desired name as its second argument:
$table->renameIndex('from', 'to')
### Dropping Indexes
To drop an index, you must specify the index's name. By default, Laravel automatically assigns an index name based on the table name, the name of the indexed column, and the index type. Here are some examples:
Command | Description
--- | ---
`$table->dropPrimary('users_id_primary');` | Drop a primary key from the "users" table.

Build the index concurrently to avoid blocking commit writes.
Laravel 13.38.0 emits a plain CREATE INDEX for this definition. The migration also runs inside a transaction by default. Use online() and disable the migration transaction so PostgreSQL can use CREATE INDEX CONCURRENTLY.
The stress seeder documents about one million commits and several gigabytes of data, so write blocking is a plausible deployment risk. The PR already discloses this limitation, and production size and build duration are not established. Downgrade this from major to minor.

Update the migration’s commits table index definition to use online index
creation, and disable the migration’s transaction so PostgreSQL can build the
GIN trigram index concurrently. Keep the existing index name and definition
unchanged.

Summary
People talk about projects here all the time. Someone ships a release, someone hits a bug in an issue, someone links a PR they liked. Right now there's no way to see all of that for one project. You'd have to search and hope.
This adds a page for every public GitHub repository at
/github/{owner}/{repo}, e.g./github/laravel/framework. It gathers every commit and reply that links to the repository, or to anything in it (an issue, a PR, a file, a.gitclone URL), newest first. The header shows the name, description and star count from GitHub, plus how many commits and people mention it.It's a sibling of the
/linksprototype, but keyed on the repository instead of the link card. Any GitHub link in the body counts, not only the one that got the card.Screenshots
/github/laravel/frameworklocally, as a guest. The commits are seeded test data with a neutral avatar; the description and stars come live from GitHub.Changes
RepositoryController@showon a public route next to profiles and commits, so guests and crawlers can read it like the rest of the public pages. The route only accepts names GitHub allows, and rejects./...RepositoryCommitsQuerymatches commit bodies with a case-insensitive Postgres regex:github.com/{owner}/{repo}, ending where the name ends.laravel/frameworkdoesn't matchlaravel/framework-docsornotgithub.com/laravel/framework..gitafter the name still count.visibleToandwithoutMutedAuthorsFor, so pending content stays with its author and moderators, and mutes and blocks filter both the feed and the counts.GitHubRepositoryQueryfetches the name, description and stars, and keeps only those three fields.commits.body, so the regex uses a bitmap index scan instead of reading every commit (checked withEXPLAINon 50k rows).Repository pagessection in the knowledge base.Validation
Local, PHP 8.5, PostgreSQL 18 with pgvector and pg_trgm:
composer test:lint: passed (Pint, Rector,vp fmt --check,vp lint).composer test:type-coverage: passed, 100%.bun run test:unit: passed.vendor/bin/pest --parallel --ci --coverage --exactly=100.0: the full run could not complete locally. It stops at aPest\Exceptions\DatasetMissingintests/Feature/ScheduledCommitsTest.php("rejects invalid times and bodies"), which fails the same way on an untouchedupstream/productioncheckout, so it predates this change. Hosted CI is the source of truth here. Run separately with coverage, the new tests giveRepositoryController,RepositoryCommitsQueryandGitHubRepositoryQuery100% line coverage (7/7, 16/16, 15/15).tests/Feature/Controllers/RepositoryControllerTest.phpcovers:.git, issue/PR paths, replies, and the-docs,.jsandnotgithub.comlookalikes;/github/laravel/frameworkshows the live GitHub header and only the matching commits, and a lookalike repo's commit stays out.Independent review
A separate reviewer did a read-only review of base
3966f168against this branch, including a scratch Postgres check of the regex and index use. The first pass was FAIL on one point: the counts ignored mutes and blocks. That's fixed, along with the./..route names,.gitURLs, the missing left boundary and the TTL constants. The re-review of this revision is PASS.Limitations
CREATE INDEX, like the existing trigram indexes. That blocks writes tocommitswhile it builds. Ifcommitsis large enough for that to matter, I can switch it toCREATE INDEX CONCURRENTLYin a non-transactional migration.owner/repochips link here, or adding a small "on /dev/null" link next to them, would be a follow-up once the page feels right.Summary by CodeRabbit
