The renderer passes the microphone's enumerateDevices() label to the
ScreenCaptureKit helper, which resolves it by exact comparison with
AVCaptureDevice.localizedName. Chromium decorates that label with a
transport suffix ("Shure MV7 (14ed:1012)", "MacBook Pro Microphone
(Built-in)", "BlackHole 16ch (Virtual)"), so the comparison failed for
almost every device and the helper silently recorded the system default
input instead. With the lid closed that default is the built-in mic,
which delivers digital silence, so recordings came out without a voice.
Try the raw label first, then the label without its trailing
parenthetical.

Resolve the microphone by exact label, then by a device ID that names a real capture device, and only then by the label without Chromium's transport suffix, so the name heuristic cannot override a precise identifier. Move the matching into a pure function and replace the source-text assertions with a test that compiles it with swiftc and checks the results against a fixed device list, following the lifecycle test. main now has AudioSampleQueue for encoder stalls and the .m4a media type, so this takes main's recorder as it is and drops this pr's own audio track and its tests. the export priming fix stays. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
screencapturekit sends no frames while the screen doesn't change, so a recording over a still screen ended at the last change, and the audio in the mp4 ended about 2 s after it. the last frame is now written again once a second while the screen is still, and the recording ends at the stop. this fixes two audio bugs: a recording over a still screen loses its ending, and exports put the audio 44 ms behind the video. this pr started as a fix for dropped audio, and main's new
AudioSampleQueuecovers that now, so i merged main and kept only these two on top of it.i recorded a still screen for 5 seconds. on main the video stops at the last screen change and the audio in the mp4 stops 2 s after that. with this pr both run to the stop.
still screens
screencapturekit only sends a frame when something on screen changes. when you talk over a still slide, the newest frame is from the last change, and main ends the recording there, with at most 2 s of audio after it.
a test window flashed and beeped at the same time. in the export from main the beep lands 44 ms after the flash. with this pr they line up within 1 ms.
exports
every aac file starts with 2112 samples of encoder priming, which is 44 ms at 48 khz. the
.m4afiles the recorder writes say the audio really starts at 0.044 s, but the export decoded from the very first packet and kept the priming. so exported audio ran 44 ms behind the video, even though the preview in the editor was in sync. the export now drops the frames decoded before the stream's start time.how to check
npx vitest run src/lib/exporter electron/native/ScreenCaptureKitRecorder.test.tsnpm run build:native-helpersbuilds the helper. the binaries aren't in this prffprobe -v error -show_entries stream=codec_type,durationon the.mp4. on main the video ends at the last screen change. on this branch the video and audio both end at the stopthis pr and #1089 both touch
ScreenCaptureKitRecorder.swift, so i'll rebase whichever lands second.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
