Folders sorted alphabetically among files, so finding them meant scrolling. New setting preview:dirsfirst (default true) keeps ".." and folders above files for every sort column and direction. A header button toggles it per widget; Default Settings persists it.

Behaviour change: folders now list first after upgrading; set preview:dirsfirst to false for the old order.

Walkthrough

Directory previews add a folder-first setting that defaults to true. The toolbar and context menu can change the setting, and the context menu persists it. Directory tables use a hidden sort key to order parent entries, folders, and files while retaining the selected sort column. Tests cover sorting and setting controls. Documentation describes the setting and controls.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title names the main change: the Files widget (preview directory view) now lists folders before files, which matches the added preview:dirsfirst setting and the sorting changes in the diff. It is specific and concise, and it uses the same terms as the description and objectives.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description explains the problem (folders sorted alphabetically among files), the new preview:dirsfirst setting (default true), the per-widget header toggle, the Default Settings persistence, and the behavior change after upgrade. It also references issue #3469. This matches the changeset closely.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #3469 requests folder-first ordering in the Files section. The PR adds preview:dirsfirst, defaults it to true, applies it to directory sorting, and adds a Files header toggle. The tests cover mixed ordering, parent-directory ordering, descending sorts, column changes, toggle state, and persistence.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay within issue #3469. Configuration schema, defaults, settings types, documentation, UI control, sorting logic, persistence, and supporting tests all implement or document the folder-first option.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 20.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 5 functions across 8 files. (4 skipped: 4 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

##### Show Folders First

At the right of the widget header, there is a **

** button. Clicking this button toggles whether folders are listed before files in this widget. Folders stay on top regardless of the sort column and direction. To change the default for new widgets, right click the header of the widget and use **Default Settings** > **Show Folders First**.

Correct the Default Settings menu path.

When users right-click the widget header, Default Settings is a disabled heading. Show Folders First appears directly below it, not inside a submenu. Change the instruction to select Show Folders First directly, or direct users to a file row for the submenu path. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Read the persisted default for the Default Settings checkmark.

If a user changes the toolbar toggle, model.dirsFirst changes without changing preview:dirsfirst. This menu then marks the widget's local value as the default, even though a new widget will use the persisted value. Read model.env.getSettingsKeyAtom("preview:dirsfirst") for the menu checkmarks; keep the local atom for this widget's sorting. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
