WHY THIS MATTERS: The whole Claude API reference has been regenerated for API version 2026-10-21, which was announced yesterday. About 1,100 reference pages across cURL, the ant CLI, Go, Java, C#, PHP, Ruby, Python and TypeScript now show the new SDK majors. In the examples, anthropic-version: 2023-06-01 becomes 2026-10-21, X-Api-Key becomes Authorization: Bearer, and Go imports move to anthropic-sdk-go/v2. Before this run, anyone copying code from the archived reference got the old version. Anthropic also published support docs for Claude Duet, a new consumer product, and Claude Science got auto mode. The Claude Code version did not change (still 2.1.308), and nothing was deleted, tombstoned or discovered.

HIGHLIGHTS:

• API reference moves to 2026-10-21. Every endpoint page (content/en/api/**, about 1,100 files) has the new version header and examples for the new SDK majors (Python 2.0.0, TS 1.0.0, Go 2.0.0, Java 3.0.0, C# 13.0.0, PHP 1.0.0, Ruby 2.0.0, ant 2.0.0). The SDKs now send the key as Authorization: Bearer, so proxies and gateways that read X-Api-Key need updating. Beta message param shapes were also restructured (for example, BetaUserMessageParam / BetaMessageContentParam). The migration guide is at content/en/api/migration-2026-10-21.md.
• New product: Claude Duet (3 new support articles). A research preview you message like a person; it works in your connected apps from its own cloud computer and asks before it sends, pays, signs or deletes anything. Pro/Max only, US only, waitlist. It also has Link by Stripe and Shop Pay payment guides.
• New: Claude Science auto mode (content/claude/claude-science/auto-mode.md). A safety classifier approves code and connector calls in place of permission cards, and it is on by default where available.
• Routines / scheduled tasks now run in auto mode by default instead of "runs autonomously, no permission mode". The new "Permission prompts during a run" section says when a cloud run stops to ask you.
• Code Review can keep an earlier result. Two new check-run titles: "skipped — no new changes" and "not repeated — earlier findings still open".
• MCP: new "Mark tools that are safe to call twice" guidance (idempotentHint), which lets Claude Code retry a pending call after a connection drops. Also new credential-store errors (Couldn't read the stored credentials…, needs-auth status in the Agent SDK) and a sleep/clock-change timeout error.
• Security-relevant: project settings can no longer turn on screen reader mode. axScreenReader and CLAUDE_AX_* are now user/managed only. managed-mcp.json allowlist checks changed in v2.1.305 (${VAR} inside env no longer triggers a check). Managed policy files can be symlinks.
• New env vars: CLAUDE_CODE_ENABLE_SHARE_BUNDLE (/share writes to a local archive), CLAUDE_CODE_WARN_DISK_FREE_GIB, CLAUDE_CODE_WARN_MEMORY_FREE_GIB.
• Claude Projects: "Continue as project" is now Move to project → Continue as new project. Self-hosted runner docs added drain/restart sizing and session-ID join guidance. Permissions docs explain more clearly that Write(path)/Glob(path) rules never match.
• Noise: links on code.claude.com and claude.com/docs were rewritten to .md targets across most of the ~1,975 modified files. MCP docs had relative-link and image alt-text churn only. Claude for Government added video captions.
