WHY THIS MATTERS: Anthropic shipped API version 2026-10-21, the first new anthropic-version since 2023-06-01. Every official SDK and the ant CLI also got a major release today, and the new versions send 2026-10-21 by default. Anyone who upgrades their SDK without reading the guide will start getting 400s. The biggest one: temperature, top_p and top_k now return an error even when set to their defaults. The new 85KB api/migration-2026-10-21.md is the most important file in the archive today, and roughly 330 platform pages were updated for the new SDKs.

HIGHLIGHTS:

• New file: content/en/api/migration-2026-10-21.md. Upgrade steps and breaking changes for the move from 2023-06-01 to 2026-10-21.
• Breaking changes in the Messages API under 2026-10-21. These also apply to token counting and batches:
  • temperature, top_p and top_k are removed. Sending any of them returns a 400, even at the default value. Requests on Sonnet 4.6 that lowered temperature lose that effect and nothing replaces it; the guide says to stay on 2023-06-01 if you depend on it.
  • document blocks placed directly in assistant messages return a 400.
  • Non-empty citations on text blocks in user messages return a 400.
• Admin API and Enterprise Analytics API field renames. The old names are dropped:
  • roles becomes role_ids
  • group_id becomes rbac_group_id
  • name becomes display_name
  • group_type becomes group.type
  • actor.email becomes actor.email_address
  • summaries becomes data
  • API keys lose workspace_id in favour of scope. A null workspace ID no longer means the Default Workspace.
• New major SDK versions: Python 2.0.0, TypeScript 1.0.0, C# 13.0.0, Go 2.0.0 (module path /v2), Java 3.0.0, PHP 1.0.0, Ruby 2.0.0, and ant CLI 2.0.0 (go install path /v2). Breaking changes in the SDKs themselves:
  • MessageParam is split by role into UserMessageParam, AssistantMessageParam and SystemMessageParam.
  • Text Completions is removed.
  • Client-side compaction is removed from the tool runner.
  • API keys are sent as Authorization: Bearer.
  • A client holds one credential.
  • The CLI's --api-key and --auth-token flags are gone.
  • The licence changes from MIT to Apache 2.0.
• Bedrock catch: 2026-10-21 works only with Claude 4.7 and later on Bedrock. Older Bedrock models have to stay on the current SDK version.
• Release notes: an October 21, 2026 entry in release-notes/overview.md confirms all of the above.
• Claude Code (no version bump, still 2.1.306), smaller items:
  • Agent SDK getContextUsage() gains row ids, per-server mcpInstructions token counts, and pluginId/path on agents and skills.
  • /loop stop behaviour is spelled out. Esc or Ctrl+C stops a self-paced loop. Fixed-interval loops have to be cancelled by asking Claude. Double Ctrl+C detaches from a background session without killing the loop.
  • Artifacts can link to a specific tab or view.
  • The memory docs clarify that sessions with CLAUDE.md loading turned off skip managed CLAUDE.md too.
• The github/anthropic-sdk-typescript and anthropic-sdk-python mirrors updated their MIGRATION docs to match.
• No deletions, no tombstone changes, no discovery.json changes.

⚠️ Upstream breaking change: the new SDK majors send anthropic-version: 2026-10-21 by default, which rejects temperature/top_p/top_k with a 400. Read content/en/api/migration-2026-10-21.md before upgrading.

Checked: 352 files (1 added, 351 modified, 0 deleted). The release-notes entry confirms the summary. government/config/settings.md shrank from 40KB to 25KB because upstream turned the prose into tables. Session limits, Compliance API and org instructions are all still there.
