## Highlights

The [all new PyROOT]({{ 'blog/new-pyroot-622/' | relative_url }}) is now the default PyROOT! It's a major upgrade, bringing much improved C++ support, and in generally more "pythonic" than the previous version. It's based on [cppyy](https://cppyy.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) which in turn is based on ROOT's [cling](/d/cling) (and a bit more from ROOT). See also the [PyROOT section in the release notes](/doc/v622/release-notes.html#pyroot).

There is more major python news: ROOT can now be built against Python3 and Python2 *at the same time*, creating the necessary libraries for `import ROOT` to work from both `python2` and `python3`, for a single ROOT build. Most of the binaries below now offer this.

ROOT has its Jupyter kernel! More information [here](https://github.com/ipython/ipython/wiki/IPython-kernels-for-other-languages).

Yet another milestone of the integration plan of ROOT with the [Jupyter](https://jupyter.org) technology has been reached: ROOT now offers a [Jupyter kernel](https://github.com/root-project/root/tree/master/bindings/jupyroot)! You can [try it](https://root.cern/d/how/how-create-rootbook) already now.

ROOT is the 54th entry in [this list](https://github.com/ipython/ipython/wiki/IPython-kernels-for-other-languages) and this is pretty cool. Now not only the PyROOT, the ROOT Python bindings, are [integrated with notebooks](https://github.com/root-project/root/tree/master/bindings/jupyroot#python-rootbook) but it's also possible to express your data mining in C++ within a notebook, taking advantage of all the powerful features of ROOT - plotting (now also interactive thanks to [Javascript ROOT](https://root.cern/js/)), multivariate analysis, linear algebra, I/O and reflection: all available within a notebook.

A great amount of knowledge about the usage of ROOT is distilled in the [ROOT tutorials](https://root.cern/doc/master/group__Tutorials.html). Since the early days of the framework, the ROOT team and its collaborators documented the features of the components of ROOT as Tutorials to allow users to "learn by example".
Since some weeks the ROOT tutorials are converted to Jupyter Notebooks automatically during the procedure creating the ROOT documentation and can be accessed in two ways: as statically rendered notebooks via [NBViewer](https://nbviewer.jupyter.org) or interactively with [SWAN](https://swan.web.cern.ch).
Look for the blue and orange badges on the [*Tutorials' Pages*](https://root.cern/doc/master/group__Tutorials.html)!

<p>Since almost two decades, <em><strong>ROOT</strong></em> has established itself as the&nbsp;framework for HENP data processing and analysis. The LHC&nbsp;upgrade program and the new experiments being designed at&nbsp;CERN and elsewhere will pose even more &nbsp;formidable&nbsp;challenges in terms of data complexity and size. The new&nbsp;parallel and heterogeneous computing architectures that are&nbsp;either announced or already available will call for a deep&nbsp;rethinking of the code and the data structures to be exploited efficiently.<br />
This workshop, following from a successful <a href="{{'/blog/workshops' | relative_url}}" target="_blank">series of such events</a>, will allow you to learn in detail about the new ROOT 6 and will help shape the future evolution of ROOT.</p>
