feat(server): run CLIProxyAPI on an environment and manage its accounts in Settings - #27388
Using a CLIProxyAPI server through #27356 still requires users to install, configure and sign in to that server themselves. This lets a T3 environment host the proxy and manage its Claude and ChatGPT accounts in Settings → Providers.
Change
The host choice is Off, This environment or External URL. Existing saved URLs continue to use the external route. The managed process uses pinned CLIProxyAPI 8.0.47, verifies its download checksum, binds only to loopback, stores generated keys in the secret store, writes config with mode 0600 and restarts under supervision. T3CODE_CLIPROXYAPI_PATH accepts a user-supplied v8 binary.
Accounts can be listed, disabled, enabled, removed or added through the management API. Sign-in uses an auth URL and a pasted callback whose state must match. All six proxy RPCs require providers:manage; client mutations use the guarded command path. Proxied providers and usage limits use the managed endpoint without manually entered URLs or keys.
The startup refresh now reads once, then responds to later managed-status changes, avoiding the duplicate initial management request.
Scope and approval
Stacked on #27356, including updated parent e21db30c42ccbc561b5b40b9351125fdec0c5dc5 and main 79f1fadfc6020b820d541ca4691d2feebb15dd1b, preserving the existing branch history. This is a feature proposal; linked maintainer approval of direction and scope remains outstanding. Sharing the proxy with other environments, a desktop callback catcher, mobile management UI and MCP tools are outside this PR.
Verification
At bab9cfdd2543370eec80157565323a3067d12906, merged main d897d3f3f00f2cb534c813e637154d39c8d1cff6 without rebasing. Resolved the Codex driver conflict by applying proxy routing to main's policy-filtered host environment. The provider registry retains both policy-based driver blocking and proxy runtime metadata. Maria's cached-session routing repair, the Claude temporary-settings credential fix, and the earlier OpenCode usage-check integration remain intact.
vp run check:changed 9fb6ebd1b8aa3f91d5d7213a79f7318d90f36ebd passed: 2,827 tests across 157 files (3 skipped), 39 affected package typechecks, 69 selected compiler cases and static checks. Refreshed local dependencies for main's new ffi-rs dependency before the passing run. Commit hooks passed. Hosted checks and reviews must be reassessed at this head; prior approvals apply only to their recorded revisions. No new integrated client pass was performed for this merge.
Maria's runtime verification at b97e463 covers managed startup/shutdown, callback-state rejection, permissions, restart persistence, direct-to-managed routing, successful external Codex generation and restoring direct routing. This integration did not repeat that client pass. Successful managed generation, completed account sign-in and management, pooled usage, other provider generation, native clients, remote access and restricted sessions remain unverified as recorded there. Maintainer direction/scope approval remains outstanding.
Integration and validation: GPT-6.1 Sol, Codex harness through T3 Code.
Earlier credential-file verification
At 35014f567861f40b39697474b6fe949f9afa2677, proxied Claude text generation writes settings to a scoped temporary directory (0700) and file (0600), passes only the file path through --settings, and removes it after the child exits. This fixesCodeRabbit's credential-exposure finding; CodeRabbit explicitly marks it addressed in 35014f5.
The existing real CLI fixture verifies that the proxy key is absent from argv, the settings file retains the route and token, POSIX file/directory permissions are owner-only, and the file is removed after generation. Before the fix it failed with proxy settings exposed in argv. vp run check:changed 1bbcaf8f1400a0bc421eee2f0fdc789d23eff041 passed: 17 tests across two files, three affected package typechecks, formatting, lint, knip and server GraphQL checks. Commit hooks also passed.
Macroscope approved this head. All 33 hosted checks passed at this head, including all eight required checks. Macroscope’s formal approval also applies to 35014f5 (review). CodeRabbit reviewed 35014f5, reported no actionable comments and assessed merge risk as low. Its remaining observation is that managed-proxy status transitions can queue serialized usage refreshes and delay reset-credit operations; this matches the shared refresh lock and is recorded for owner awareness. Integrated Settings, managed process and account-flow verification, plus maintainer approval of feature direction/scope, remain outstanding. No integrated client or real account sign-in pass is claimed for this repair. The PR remains excluded from the ready-for-review batch pending those requirements.
Earlier routing verification
At 1bbcaf8f1400a0bc421eee2f0fdc789d23eff041, Claude SDK/CLI settings env preserves the configured proxy route over user settings while retaining unrelated values. Saved hubs suppress the synthetic proxy source only when normalized URL and current management key match; rotated keys retain the working source. Proxied Claude probes skip the discarded native usage request. Existing regressions failed before those fixes. vp run check:changed f087a3f9d9a084fff151ca04ae37b3f2f596d4d7 passed: 326 tests across six files, three affected package typechecks and static checks. All 33 hosted checks passed and Macroscope approved that head. CodeRabbit's earlier settings-precedence finding explicitly records it as addressed. No model-facing instruction text changed.
Follow-up implementation and verification: GPT-6.1 Sol, Codex harness through T3 Code.
Earlier integration evidence
At f087a3f9d9a084fff151ca04ae37b3f2f596d4d7, vp run check:changed 79f1fadfc6020b820d541ca4691d2feebb15dd1b passed: 761 tests in 30 files, five selected compiler cases, 39 affected package typechecks, formatting, lint, knip, GraphQL and unused-patch checks. The startup regression failed before the fix with three management reads instead of two; it now passes. The final fixture correction calls the existing service-class test layer.
Hosted CI and reviews remain pending at this new head. The integrated Settings/process/account flow was not repeated for this update. Real account sign-in and native clients are not verified.
Historical client evidence
These earlier captures predate the current integration. The isolated server downloaded and ran the pinned proxy on loopback, kept config mode 0600, stopped it with the server and reused its port after restart. Host switching and provider routing were exercised. A turn reached the managed proxy but could not complete without signed-in accounts. These observations and captures are historical evidence, not a current-head client pass.
Original implementation: Claude Opus 5.5 through Claude Code; historical UI verification: GPT-6 Astra through Codex CLI; original review: GPT-6.1 Sol. Current integration, startup fix and verification: GPT-6.1 Sol through the Codex harness in T3 Code.
… proxy
Adds a per-environment proxy connection (Settings -> Providers -> Proxy) and
a Use proxy switch on Claude, Codex, and OpenCode instances. Routing applies at
harness spawn only; Codex pins thread start and resume to the t3_proxy model
provider. A proxy management key feeds Usage -> Limits automatically.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- a hand-written provider-proxy usage source keeps its id
- proxied OpenCode skips Go limits, offers only routed providers, and refuses JSONC config
- each proxy key can be cleared on its own
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…xy's accounts
- OpenCode 2 reads providers.*.settings, which the override does not write yet
- a hub at the proxy URL without a management key no longer suppresses the proxy source
- the Proxy search result redirects to an environment that can render it
- docs: the API key is only needed when the proxy requires one
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…unts in Settings
The provider proxy needed a CLIProxyAPI server someone ran by hand, and its
accounts were managed outside T3 Code.
Settings → Providers → Proxy now picks the host: Off, This environment, or
External URL. "This environment" downloads the pinned CLIProxyAPI 8.0.47
release (per-platform SHA-256, staged extract, version check) into T3 home,
writes its config (loopback only, one generated client key, a generated
management key, session affinity) and keeps both keys in the secret store,
then supervises it with restart backoff. Use proxy instances route to it with
no further setup, and it feeds Usage → Limits like an external proxy with a
management key.
A ProxyAccounts service wraps the /v0/management API: list, disable/enable,
remove, and Claude/Codex sign-in with paste-back of the localhost redirect.
It is exposed as provider.proxy.* RPCs behind providers:manage, and the Proxy
section lists accounts by provider.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Adds opt-in proxy hosting, provider routing and account management in Settings. Existing routing stays unchanged unless enabled; authenticated management, loopback hosting and fail-closed routing limit the new exposure.

Walkthrough
This change adds managed and external CLIProxyAPI support for Claude, Codex, and OpenCode. It adds proxy settings, account operations, provider routing, usage-limit integration, RPC methods, and settings UI.
The server can resolve or install CLIProxyAPI, write its configuration, supervise the process, and publish its status and endpoint.
Proxy endpoint and account operations apps/server/src/providerProxy/effectiveProxy.ts, apps/server/src/providerProxy/ProxyAccounts.ts, apps/server/src/providerProxy/ProxyAccounts.test.ts
Endpoint resolvers select routing and management endpoints. ProxyAccounts reads account state and handles login, account status updates, and account removal through the management API.
Registry hydration attaches proxy routes to opted-in instances. Claude and Codex apply proxy settings to their runtime environments. Codex thread operations receive a proxy model-provider override. Proxy-routed provider status reports proxy authentication and unavailable usage limits.
OpenCode routes its Anthropic and OpenAI providers through the proxy and verifies the effective configuration. Proxy use requires a higher minimum version. Locally managed OpenCode 2 rejects proxy use.
Usage limits and supporting integration apps/server/src/usage/UsageLimitSources.ts, apps/server/src/settingsSecrets.ts, apps/server/src/observability/RpcInstrumentation.ts, docs/user/install.md, docs/user/usage.md
The proxy can be added as a Usage limits source. Proxy keys use secret storage. Proxy RPC methods use the provider aggregate, and user documentation describes configuration and behavior.

Match the management key before reusing a hub.
If a saved hub points to the proxy URL but retains an old management key, alreadyListed suppresses the proxy source. Refresh then uses the old key and cannot show the proxy’s accounts, even when the current proxy key works. Treat the hub as equivalent only when its management key matches managementKey. Add the rotated-key case to the existing source-selection test. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

found and repaired a routing bug: after a direct turn, enabling use proxy left the shared codex process alive. settings said via proxy, but a new thread still used the previous route. the session manager now checks the registry runtime identity before reuse, replaces stale idle sessions, and rejects a replacement while work is active. the regression failed before the fix and passes afterward.
retested direct-to-managed switching without a restart. the empty managed proxy now receives the turn and returns its model error instead of silently spending the direct account. an external proxy completed a real turn with VERIFIED_EXTERNAL_CODEX_OK. switching an existing external thread to managed produced the managed error; turning use proxy off then completed DIRECT_RESTORED_OK in that same thread. host off makes an opted-in provider unavailable.

Problem
Using a CLIProxyAPI server through #27356 still requires users to install, configure and sign in to that server themselves. This lets a T3 environment host the proxy and manage its Claude and ChatGPT accounts in Settings → Providers.
Change
The host choice is Off, This environment or External URL. Existing saved URLs continue to use the external route. The managed process uses pinned CLIProxyAPI 8.0.47, verifies its download checksum, binds only to loopback, stores generated keys in the secret store, writes config with mode 0600 and restarts under supervision.
T3CODE_CLIPROXYAPI_PATHaccepts a user-supplied v8 binary.Accounts can be listed, disabled, enabled, removed or added through the management API. Sign-in uses an auth URL and a pasted callback whose state must match. All six proxy RPCs require
providers:manage; client mutations use the guarded command path. Proxied providers and usage limits use the managed endpoint without manually entered URLs or keys. The startup refresh now reads once, then responds to later managed-status changes, avoiding the duplicate initial management request.

35014f567861f40b39697474b6fe949f9afa2677, proxied Claude text generation writes settings to a scoped temporary directory (0700) and file (0600), passes only the file path through--settings, and removes it after the child exits. This fixes CodeRabbit's credential-exposure finding; CodeRabbit explicitly marks it addressed in35014f5.The existing real CLI fixture verifies that the proxy key is absent from argv, the settings file retains the route and token, POSIX file/directory permissions are owner-only, and the file is removed after generation. Before the fix it failed with
proxy settings exposed in argv.vp run check:changed 1bbcaf8f1400a0bc421eee2f0fdc789d23eff041passed: 17 tests across two files, three affected package typechecks, formatting, lint, knip and server GraphQL checks. Commit hooks also passed.Macroscope approved this head. All 33 hosted checks passed at this head, including all eight required checks. Macroscope’s formal approval also applies to
35014f5(review). CodeRabbit reviewed35014f5, reported no actionable comments and assessed merge risk as low. The PR remains excluded from the ready-for-review batch pending those requirements.Earlier routing verification
At
1bbcaf8f1400a0bc421eee2f0fdc789d23eff041, Claude SDK/CLI settings env preserves the configured proxy route over user settings while retaining unrelated values. Saved hubs suppress the synthetic proxy source only when normalized URL and current management key match; rotated keys retain the working source. Proxied Claude probes skip the discarded native usage request. Existing regressions failed before those fixes.vp run check:changed f087a3f9d9a084fff151ca04ae37b3f2f596d4d7passed: 326 tests across six files, three affected package typechecks and static checks. All 33 hosted checks passed and Macroscope approved that head. CodeRabbit's earlier settings-precedence finding explicitly records it as addressed. No model-facing instruction text changed.Follow-up implementation and verification: GPT-6.1 Sol, Codex harness through T3 Code.
Earlier integration evidence

The startup regression failed before the fix with three management reads instead of two; it now passes. The final fixture correction calls the existing service-class test layer.Hosted CI and reviews remain pending at this new head.
