fix(web): refresh open new-thread project choices - #25202
An open "New thread in..." picker keeps the project choices captured when it opened. Projects and repository metadata arriving afterward stay invisible until the picker is reopened.
Change
Give this picker its own group key at both entry points and resolve its rows from the current project choices. Existing scratch filtering, repository grouping, contextual environment selection, and thread creation remain in the existing builders.
One regression case in the existing palette test file covers replaced choices, current selection actions, and unrelated submenus. No new test files.
Verification
Blacksmith: all 30 palette logic tests pass. The regression first failed with the stored choices, before enabling live resolution.
Blacksmith: vp run check:changed passes formatting, lint, both knip checks, affected web/scripts typechecks, and tests.
Real web client, system Chrome: baseline retains duplicate checkout rows and hides a newly created project; the fix groups the checkouts and shows the arrival without reopening. Updates use the existing project command service and WebSocket stream.
Both Ctrl+N and the command palette submenu show a newly created project while open; selecting it opens a draft for that project. Verified at 1440px and 800px widths.
Unverified: packaged Electron, a remote multi-environment cold start, and delayed scratch configuration delivery. Mobile uses a separate selector and is unchanged.
merged github/main at b42adff, preserving its render-time open-intent initialization and this pr's tested refresh helper. no rebase or force-push. main already includes equivalent live refresh; this integration keeps one resolver.
blacksmith check:changed against b42adff passed format, lint, both knip checks, web/scripts typechecks, all 36 palette tests (including two browser cases), and the affected react compiler checks. two independent gpt-6.1-sol reviewers approved c2c9750 with no findings. all 33 reported checks are successful, including expected skipped jobs; github reports mergeable.
real linux web client at 1440x1000 using system chrome: added picker-second through the local-folder flow in another tab while the first picker stayed open. the project appeared without reopening; selecting it opened its matching draft. keyboard entry also displayed the project. nearby pure-helper submenu behavior and existing open-intent browser tests passed. packaged desktop, native mobile, remote environments, and a new provider turn were not exercised in this merge pass. prior provider evidence remains above.

verified live project arrival through the running server while the direct picker stays open, selecting the new project, and opening the root new-thread submenu in linux chrome. desktop, mobile, remote environments, and historical cold-start timing remain unverified.
The command palette identifies the “New thread in...” submenu with the value "new-thread-in". It replaces that submenu’s items with current project-thread items before filtering. Tests verify that current actions replace stale choices and other submenu groups remain unchanged.

Explanation
The title "fix(web): refresh open new-thread project choices" matches the main change. The picker for "New thread in..." now resolves its rows from current project choices through the new resolveNewThreadProjectGroups helper, instead of the choices captured when it opened. It is a conventional commit title in plain language, with a clear scope and summary. It does not cover every detail, such as the separate group key, which is expected.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the repository template closely. It has the Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification sections, with a conventional-style title in the objectives. The Problem and Change sections are clear and specific. The Verification section is detailed and reports focused tests, real web-client checks, screenshots, and a GIF, and it names what was not verified. The Scope and approval section is the main gap. It refers to a takeover of an earlier PR (#22409) and gives thanks to its original author, but it does not link a triaged bug issue or a maintainer discussion. It also does not explain why the change qualifies for an exemption. The template requires one of these. The model and harness line is present. The description also has a long merge-verification addendum that restates checks and is not part of the template, but the core template content is present.
Resolution
Add the Scope and approval justification. Link the triaged bug issue or the discussion with explicit maintainer approval of this direction and scope, including the approval comment. If the change qualifies as a very small, focused fix of an obvious bug, explain why it qualifies without a prior issue or discussion. Note that the takeover of PR #22409 does not by itself show maintainer approval. Also consider moving the long merge-verification and takeover notes into the Verification section so that the template structure stays clear.

first ran github/main (be2ea30d2b269f1526be3fd556bc5380b4dc01b3) in ../main after vp i. today's main already resolves the open picker live: creating picker-arrival in another app tab appeared without reopening. the original bug could not be reproduced on current main, which has a later implementation of this behavior.
checked out the exact PR head, ran vp i, and started the real dev server in the background with explicit --home-dir /home/user/t3code/.t3 and seeding disabled. server/web ports were 13773/5733. an initial run defaulted to ~/.t3; i stopped it and repeated the verification against the fresh isolated home. the PR evidence below comes from the isolated rerun.
added /home/user/t3code through the app's local-folder flow. opened command palette → New thread in..., then created a real git project named picker-arrival through another app tab. it appeared while the first picker stayed open. selecting it opened its project draft.
selected codex gpt-6.1-sol in that draft and submitted a real provider turn through the composer. the assistant returned PICKER_CODEX_OK, and the turn completed.
repeated live arrival through ctrl+n with keyboard-arrival. selecting it opened the matching project draft. the existing repository remained grouped into one choice.
checked a neighboring submenu: selected another theme through Change theme, then restored T3 Code. navigation and selection still worked.
blacksmith: all 30 existing palette logic tests passed. vp run check:changed d9abfdd1cb595d186391ed5a28000554d425b5fc passed format, lint, both knip checks, affected web/scripts typechecks, and all 30 tests. the explicit PR-parent ref was needed because the worker's initial shallow snapshot lacked an origin/main merge base. lint reported one existing render-purity warning, with zero errors. the rendered PR reports 23 successful and 7 skipped CI checks.

packaged electron, macOS/windows, native iOS/android, remote multi-environment cold starts, delayed repository-identity regrouping, and delayed scratch-configuration delivery were not exercised. mobile uses a separate selector and is unchanged. this proves live project arrivals and current selection actions through the real local web/server/codex path; it does not reproduce the historical startup race on today's main.
Add caller-level coverage for both picker entrypoints.
The regression test calls resolveNewThreadProjectGroups directly, so it remains green if either picker entrypoint stops calling the resolver. The existing browser test checks only focus. Add a focused test that opens the picker through both openCommandPalette({ open: "new-thread-in" }) and the root action:new-thread-in submenu, then asserts that refreshed project choices and actions are visible. This covers the live-refresh wiring without duplicating the helper test.

Add focused caller-level coverage for both picker entrypoints: open the picker
via openCommandPalette({ open: "new-thread-in" }) and via the root
action:new-thread-in submenu, then verify refreshed project choices and their
current actions are visible. Keep the existing direct
resolveNewThreadProjectGroups test as helper coverage.

merged current main into the existing head and preserved both independent regression tests in the conflict. no product scope changes: the diff remains three files, +58/-9.
blacksmith vp run check:changed passed: format, lint, both knip checks, affected typechecks, 43 palette tests, and react compiler checks. two independent read-only reviews approved this head.
caller-level coverage is an optional follow-up; the existing regression checks current choices and action closures, and both entry points share the same render-time resolver. no additional test surface was added for the nit.
this is an authorized takeover of the focused picker refresh fix in https://git.cafe/pingdotgg/t3code/pulls/22409. current main also refreshes the open picker, so this preserves the contributor's scoped helper and regression coverage. no unrelated behavior was added. latest CI is pending.
Add one production-path regression test for the open picker.
The current test passes a hard-coded "new-thread-in" group directly to resolveNewThreadProjectGroups. It does not verify that openIntentView constructs the matching group with NEW_THREAD_IN_GROUP. Add one test through the open-intent picker that asserts the current project rows. This covers the wiring without duplicating the case for the root submenu. The current production path works; this is regression coverage, not a fix for a current failure.

Add a regression test through openIntentView that verifies the open-intent
picker constructs the matching group using NEW_THREAD_IN_GROUP and shows the
current project rows. Do not duplicate the root-submenu case.

all 33 checks are green at c297ff0b83f081c11d2021c08607b58fb866333c, with no conflicts. blacksmith check:changed and two independent code reviews passed. real chrome verified project arrival while the picker remained open, selection into that project's composer, and the root submenu. the recording is in the pr body and its rendered gif was inspected.
the final coverage suggestion is a nit, not a current failure. keeping the focused helper regression and the completed browser verification avoids expanding this takeover. desktop, mobile, remote environments, and historical cold-start timing remain unverified. no merge performed.
