fix(desktop): Cmd+F now searches the page in the integrated browser - #22960
The integrated browser has no find on page. Pressing Cmd+F (Ctrl+F on Windows/Linux) on a loaded page does nothing, and the browser's ⋮ menu has no find option, so the only way to search a page is DevTools. Reported in #22952.
Change
Adds find on page for Electron-rendered browser tabs:
Find bar. Cmd+F opens a find bar over the page. It searches as you type, shows active/total, and supports Enter / Shift+Enter, the arrow buttons, and Escape to close. Closing it hands focus back to the page, so the next Cmd+F works without clicking.
Desktop.PreviewManager gets findInPage / stopFindInPage and forwards Chromium's found-in-page updates. These go through new IPC channels and DesktopPreviewBridge methods. Electron's findNext: true means "start a new search", so the contract names it newSession.
The page sees the shortcut first, as in Chrome. Web apps that bind Cmd+F (editors, forums) keep their own find. The guest preload reports the key back only if the page did not call preventDefault. When focus is inside an iframe the preload cannot see the key, so the host claims it first, as the other forwarded shortcuts do.
Entry points.
preview.find keybinding, default mod+f when previewFocus. It can be rebound in Settings → Keybindings as "Preview: Find on Page".
"Find on page" item in the browser ⋮ menu, showing the current shortcut.
"Find on page in browser" command palette action while the browser panel is open.
Focus after navigation. Submitting a URL now focuses the page, the way a browser's address bar does. Without this, page shortcuts like Cmd+F only work after a click into the page.
Where find isn't available. Streamed/server browser tabs and the web build have no Electron webContents to search. There the ⋮ item is hidden, and the shortcut or palette action shows a short "not available" toast.
Scope and approval
This fixes#22952: Cmd+F, a basic browser function, does nothing in the integrated browser. The issue is not triaged yet. The change covers only that one problem, across the layers it needs: the contract, desktop IPC and preview manager, guest preload, preview UI, and the keybinding entry. If maintainers see this as a feature that needs an Ideas discussion first, I'm happy to move it there.
Verification
Focused tests:
apps/desktop/src/preview/Manager.test.ts covers the following:
findInPage maps to Electron's options.
Every found-in-page update reaches subscribers.
stopFindInPage clears the selection.
The page gets the find shortcut first on macOS (Cmd), Linux and Windows (Ctrl). The host opens find only when the preload reports the key unhandled, and claims it first when a subframe has focus.
vp run check:changed passes: format, lint, knip, typecheck and tests.
Manual checks in the desktop dev build on macOS, using https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_browser:
Typing in the find bar highlights matches immediately (e.g. 5/134), with no Enter needed.
Next/previous work, and a query with no matches shows 0/0 in red.
Cmd+F works right after a URL loads, with no click into the page.
Cmd+F, Escape, Cmd+F opens the bar again.
The binding shows up in Settings → Keybindings.
Not checked:
Windows and Linux in a real app (only unit tests).
A page that binds Cmd+F itself, to confirm its own find wins.
The palette action on a new, unsaved thread. I fixed that after the recording below, where it is missing.
Before: the browser ⋮ menu has no find option, and Cmd+F does nothing.
After: Cmd+F opens the find bar and highlights matches as you type.
After: the shortcut can be changed in Settings → Keybindings.
Recording, 40 s, showing search as you type, next/previous, Escape and the keybinding setting: find-on-page.mp4

Walkthrough
The pull request adds find-in-page to the desktop preview. It connects search controls and shortcut entry points to desktop search operations, reports match counts, and adds page-first handling for the Find shortcut.

Summary
Find contracts and IPC bridge packages/contracts/src/ipc.ts, apps/desktop/src/ipc/channels.ts, apps/desktop/src/ipc/methods/preview.ts, apps/desktop/src/preload.ts
Contracts define search inputs and result events. IPC and preload methods start or stop tab searches and deliver results to the renderer.
Search execution and result delivery apps/desktop/src/preview/Manager.ts, apps/desktop/src/preview/Manager.test.ts
The manager calls Electron find-in-page operations and publishes match updates to subscribers. Tests cover search options, result events, and stopping a search.
The guest preload reports eligible shortcuts that the page did not prevent. The manager routes configured page-first commands based on focus and shortcut mapping. The preview.find command is added to keybindings and action dispatch.
The command palette and preview menu expose Find. The preview view controls availability, focus, menu actions, and find-bar rendering. The bar searches, navigates matches, displays counts, and stops searches when cleared or unmounted. The browser test checks that switching tabs does not reopen the bar.

Explanation
Issue #22952 requires that Cmd+F (Ctrl+F on Windows/Linux) open a find bar and highlight page matches in the integrated browser. The browser ⋮ menu must also offer find. The PR meets these requirements: (1) Desktop: PreviewManager.findInPage maps to Electron webContents.findInPage with findNext set from newSession. stopFindInPage calls stopFindInPage('clearSelection'). The found-in-page listener forwards every update to subscribers. These run through new IPC channels, DesktopPreviewBridge methods, and contract types. (2) Web UI: PreviewFindBar searches as the user types, shows active/total counts, supports next, previous, and Escape, and stops the search on close or unmount. (3) Shortcut: the preview.find command is in STATIC_KEYBINDING_COMMANDS with default mod+f when previewFocus. The guest preload (PickPreload.ts) reports unhandled keys. The host opens find on a reported key, or claims the key first when a subframe has focus. (4) Menu: PreviewMoreMenu shows a 'Find on page' item when actions.find is set, and PreviewView wires it. Unit tests in Manager.test.ts cover option mapping, result forwarding, selection clearing, and shortcut routing for macOS, Linux, and Windows. The reviewed diff of Manager.ts matches these claims. Remaining uncertainty: Windows and Linux behavior and the page-owned Cmd+F case are not checked in a real app. The issue does not require those checks, and unit tests cover the routing logic.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
Each change connects to #22952 or supports its implementation. Contracts, IPC channels, preload bridge, and PreviewManager find methods implement the search path. The guest preload shortcut report and host routing implement the shortcut requirement. The find bar, ⋮ menu item, command palette action, and preview.find keybinding implement the entry points. The KeybindingsSettings label and ReopenClosedViewShortcut forwarding register the new command. The shared helper in Manager.ts that filters non-macOS Ctrl+Alt punctuation keys was extracted from existing logic. The reviewed diff shows the same filter applied to existing forwarded shortcuts, so this refactor does not change their behavior. Page-first priority applies only to preview.find (PAGE_FIRST_FORWARDED_COMMANDS). Focus-after-navigation in PreviewView supports the issue's reproduction, which requires a click into the page before Cmd+F works. The F-key pattern in PickPreload.ts is not described in the PR description. Its only effect in the reviewed code is to forward keys that match a page-first command, and preview.find is the only such command, so it is connected to find-shortcut handling. No change is shown to be unrelated to the issue.

The description covers the problem, implementation, scope, verification, manual checks, limitations, screenshots, and recording. However, the Scope and approval section states that issue #22952 is not triaged and does not provide explicit maintainer approval or a sufficiently clear exemption rationale under the repository template.

The integrated browser had no find on page, so Cmd+F did nothing on a
loaded page. Cmd+F now opens a find bar that searches as you type, with
next/previous, a match count and Escape to close. Find on page is also
in the browser's more menu and the command palette, and its shortcut can
be changed in keybinding settings.
The page sees the shortcut first, as in Chrome, so web apps that bind
Cmd+F keep their own find.
