feat: configure Module metadata search paths in pyproject.toml - #263
Conversation
Standalone Modules can list more folders to search for projects in [tool.holoscan], for example extra-search-paths = ["examples"]. The folders are added to the default folders; HOLOSCAN_CLI_SEARCH_PATH still replaces the whole list. Discovery now skips hidden folders such as .git and .venv, Python virtual environments, and CMake build trees, and lists each metadata.json once when search folders overlap. Before this, searching "." also listed the placeholder projects of the CLI's Module template installed in .venv. tool.holoscan.search-paths now mirrors HOLOSCAN_CLI_SEARCH_PATH: it lists the folders to search and replaces the conventional directories, so leaving a folder out excludes it. The environment variable still wins. A Module's root metadata.json is always searched, so a custom list cannot hide the Module. The real directory is searched first, so the combined assertion can pass even if the

Problem
A standalone Module can't list projects outside the default folders. An app in
examples/gives "Project 'ex_app' not found", and[tool.holoscan]has nosetting for it. The workaround,
HOLOSCAN_CLI_SEARCH_PATH, replaces the defaultfolders:
exampleshides the Module and its operators, and.also searches.venv, which lists placeholder projects from the CLI's own Module template.Change
[tool.holoscan]keysearch-paths, which isHOLOSCAN_CLI_SEARCH_PATHkept in
pyproject.toml. For example,search-paths = ["operators", "examples"].It replaces the default folders, so leaving a folder out excludes it, and
.searches the whole Module. Entries must be relative paths inside the Module.
HOLOSCAN_CLI_SEARCH_PATHtakes precedence over it.metadata.jsonis always searched, so a custom list from eithersource can't hide the Module.
