Changes

  • Index project-root Android vendor implementation source explicitly opted in through codegraph.json include, including Git-ignored source, while excluding nested vendor dependencies, other dependency/build directories, and explicit excludes.
  • Detect included source additions, content changes, and deletions through the Git fast path. Unchanged include-only candidates use recorded size/mtime before content reads; Git-reported and dirty-ledger paths still receive content checks.
  • Preserve qualified nested Java names in generic inheritance in wasm and native extraction, retaining main's enum constant body support.
  • Preserve Java package wildcard imports and apply Java access checks in optimized and fallback resolution. Cover same-package access, implicit public visibility through nested interfaces, valid public calls across packages, and rejection of private/package-private calls.
  • Recognize annotated AIDL return methods in AIDL and HAL declaration scans.
  • Bump the extraction version to recommend re-indexing affected projects and include the Android regressions in native CI.

Verified pre-merge integration

Verified on 2026-10-30 UTC. Feature head: b497e567fdb95a7f200cded3f7e433dc3f572db4. Base main: 649ec1134e6c7397d1133e90b4031850f80a6579, which integrates upstream 60b0d7a92dc001de1be37943ef3cd1cc955d693d.

The PR contains five feature commits and 12 changed files (+440/-31), with no commits behind this base. The actual tested merge 8675efb64782af743961fc119660d9ed192c0cb1 and GitHub's merge preview 77105f47b093a186c1bbae51ea41f08b22e14d9f have the same parents and tree fbe8a40081a5846f525be710ce5665345ba3a16d. The previous feature head remains recoverable at tag backup/pr15-before-60b0-20261029-f7bc8ab3; the original pre-cleanup head remains at branch backup/pr15-20261008-77c6515.

Validation

  • Exact feature-head push CI and PR CI: all eight Actions checks succeeded. Linux portable Node 22 and 24 each passed 9,066 tests with 418 skipped; native/kernel/AOSP passed 2,176 tests with 19 skipped.
  • Actual merge compatibility CI succeeded on the tested merge above.
  • macOS ARM64 actual merge: full portable Node 22 and 24 each passed 9,076 tests with 408 skipped before native compilation. Fresh PR-specific native builds and regressions each passed 2,963 tests with 16 skipped on both runtimes.
  • Windows x64 targeted compatibility: main and actual merge each passed 464 tests with 12 skipped on Node 22 and 24. This is targeted portable coverage, not a full Windows or Windows native suite.
  • Engine/UI builds, Bun builds, the 20-language native contract, Android tracing, and whitespace checks passed. Original nested-vendor, nested-interface visibility, cheap unchanged-status checks, vendor-pattern specificity, and same-byte-size content-change regressions remain covered.

CodeRabbit's current check is skipped, not a passed review. Its status comment explicitly attributes this to the repository having fewer than 10 stars, consistent with CodeRabbit's documented public-repository policy. No repository CodeRabbit YAML is present; the run reports defaults/CHILL. No current-head CodeRabbit review or self-approval is claimed.

Known limitations

Status still enumerates/stats included paths. An ignored file whose bytes change while both size and mtime remain unchanged needs a forced re-index. No claim is made about an unrelated decompiled vendor corpus.

The include-removal finding remains valid and open: removing an include pattern can leave getChangedFiles().removed empty for a previously indexed Git-ignored file. A full sync() removes it correctly. This was independently reproduced for ordinary ignored included source on integrated main, and CodeRabbit acknowledged that it is an existing configuration-reconciliation limitation rather than a rebase regression. This PR does not fix that behavior.

Merge result

Merged on 2026-10-30 at 18:20 UTC using a merge commit, preserving all five feature commits and published main history. Final main: ad19bbeb4ceb9d9a8f962466dda9a2c22cba87bf, with parents 649ec1134e6c7397d1133e90b4031850f80a6579 and b497e567fdb95a7f200cded3f7e433dc3f572db4. Its tree exactly matches the tested compatibility candidate above.

The exact post-merge main CI completed successfully: Node 22 and 24 portable each passed 9,066 tests with 418 skipped, then native/kernel/AOSP passed 2,176 tests with 19 skipped, followed by the aggregate gate. Logs confirm the final merge SHA was checked out. GitHub's automatic branch-deletion policy removed the feature branch; it was restored to its original head b497e567fdb95a7f200cded3f7e433dc3f572db4 without changing repository settings. The known include-removal thread remains unresolved.

Thanks for the review. I independently reproduced and fixed all three P2 findings, added regressions for the nested vendor exclusions, implicit-public nested Java interfaces, and clean-status source reads, and replied to/resolved the three threads.

The original patch has been reconciled onto current main: this PR is now three commits / 12 files and has no merge conflicts. The old head is preserved on backup/pr15-20261008-77c6515.

Final head: 809a7d95. CI also exposed a Java package wildcard import regression; that was reproduced and fixed, with access checks covered in both optimized and fallback resolution paths. At this exact head, both PR CI and push CI completed successfully: Node 22/24 each passed 536 files / 6,632 tests, and native kernel/AOSP passed 31 files / 1,442 tests. Main's upstream integration CI also passed.

The status fix avoids content reads for unchanged include-only candidates, while retaining content checks for Git/dirty-ledger candidates. Included paths still require enumeration/stat checks.

Review in Change Stack →

Walkthrough

The changes update Android vendor-source inclusion and Git change detection, Java extraction and reference visibility, and annotated AIDL and HAL method matching. They also add coverage tests, update CI test execution, and revise the README and changelog.

Changes: Android platform source coverage

Layer / File(s) Summary
Vendor inclusion and change detection
src/extraction/index.ts, __tests__/android-platform-language-coverage.test.ts, README.md, .github/workflows/ci.yml, CHANGELOG.md
Explicit includes can select project-root vendor/ sources while nested vendor, dependency, and build exclusions remain. Git change detection checks include-selected files and avoids content reads for unchanged include-only candidates when size and mtime match. Tests cover filesystem and Git scanning, filtering, and change detection.
Java extraction and reference visibility
codegraph-kernel/src/java.rs, src/extraction/tree-sitter.ts, src/resolution/name-matcher.ts, src/extraction/extraction-version.ts, __tests__/android-platform-language-coverage.test.ts, CHANGELOG.md
Java extraction records interface visibility and removes generic arguments from inheritance references. Reference resolution applies Java visibility checks across files. The extraction version changes to 29. Tests cover inheritance, nested interfaces, enum methods, and visibility-based call resolution.
Annotated AIDL and HAL methods
src/aosp/aidl.ts, src/aosp/hal.ts, __tests__/android-platform-language-coverage.test.ts, __tests__/aosp-aidl.test.ts
AIDL and HAL method matching accepts annotations with optional arguments before return types. Tests cover annotated methods, and the AIDL fixture comment states its declaration-discovery scope.

Priority: Normal

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~25 minutes

Change: Feature

Suggested reviewers: colbymchenry

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to f1ed6

Removing a vendor include can leave stale files in the index until a full scan. Reconcile those files before merging.

Security architecture risk: Low · up to f1ed6

Vendor indexing requires explicit opt-in, and dependency and explicit-exclude checks remain in place. The principal limitations concern inherited symlink behavior and status reporting after configuration changes; full synchronization provides scope cleanup. No introduced security vulnerability was established, but the inspected coverage does not support a minimal-risk conclusion.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The immediate exposure is the local project index under the indexing process's existing filesystem permissions. Newly admitted vendor symlinks can extend reads to reachable out-of-root source; project-relative path filtering therefore does not establish physical-root isolation for indexing.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Vendor admission is configuration-driven rather than automatic. Collection checks source eligibility, vendor permission, built-in exclusions, and explicit excludes before accepting a path; lexical parent escapes are rejected during discovery.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Public synchronization serializes writers with in-process and file locks. Full writes invalidate freshness metadata before work; dirty-path metadata embeds its commit identity so a mismatched pair is rejected. Successful synchronization records retry paths, while watcher failures retain reconciliation work.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — If deployments require physical project-root isolation for indexed metadata as well as live source reads, consider a separate explicit permission for out-of-root symlink indexing. Vendor inclusion alone should not be presented as providing that isolation.

Explanation

The title names the two main themes of the PR: indexing opted-in Android vendor source (the include rule change in src/extraction/index.ts, the README and CHANGELOG updates, and the new ScopeIgnore/matcher logic) and covering Java/AIDL language cases (Java generic inheritance, visibility checks in name-matcher.ts, and the AIDL/HAL annotation regex changes, plus the new language coverage tests). It is short, specific, and matches the changeset and objectives. It does not mention the extraction version bump or the clean-status change detection, which are secondary details and not required for a title.

156-158: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

The "same size" edit changes the file size.

The comment on Line 156 says "Same size, new mtime." The replacement run() → stop() adds one byte, so the size changes.

The size/mtime pre-filter therefore never sees an equal size in this step. The assertion on Line 158 passes because of the size change, not because of the new mtime. No test covers a content change that keeps the size but has a new mtime for an include-only candidate.

Use a replacement with the same length, so the mtime is the only metadata that changes.

♻️ Proposed fix
-    write(file, source.replace('run()', 'stop()')); // Same size, new mtime.
+    write(file, source.replace('run()', 'end()')); // Same size, new mtime.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Retain previously indexed files as removal candidates.

If a Git-ignored vendor file was indexed through include, removing that include pattern leaves the file in the database. The new candidate set contains only current include matches and Git-reported paths. Git does not report the ignored file, so getChangedFiles() reports no removal even though a full sync would remove it. Add previously indexed paths to the scope check when include configuration changes, or otherwise reconcile paths that lose their include match.

Thanks for the precise case. I independently reproduced it on f1ed60e: after indexing Git-ignored vendor/oem/Device.java through include and then removing the include pattern, getChangedFiles() reports no removal. A full sync() removes the file and its nodes correctly. The same status behavior also reproduces for ordinary ignored Tools/Device.java on integrated main b6ae433, so it is shared with the existing include-configuration fast path rather than introduced by this rebase. I documented the remaining limitation and the full-sync workaround in the PR description. No configuration-reconciliation fix is included in f1ed60e; this thread remains open.

@mixxer Thanks for reproducing both cases. Your results establish that this is an existing include-configuration limitation, not a regression introduced by this rebase.

The finding remains valid and open. A full sync() is the workaround after removing an include pattern.

Would you like me to open a follow-up GitHub issue for configuration reconciliation?
