@piyushtripathi9424 I think this can be fixed with a smaller change. The PDF link was already working before, so we may not need to add separate PDF handling or change it to open in a new tab. Could we keep the existing card link and only change the inner “Read More” link to a |

The nested-anchor issue is fixed cleanly here, but could we preserve the existing external/static link handling in AdventuresVol?
The new implementation uses a plain <a href={to}> for every destination, which may change the existing behavior for external/static links (for example, target/rel handling). Could we reuse the existing isExternalOrStatic classification so the navigation behavior remains unchanged while removing the nested anchor?

Could you keep the alt={title} change out of this PR? It's a useful accessibility improvement, but it isn't related to the layout-shift/nested-anchor issue. Keeping it separate would keep this PR focused on the navigation fix and make the change easier to review and maintain.
One non-blocking suggestion - The isExternalOrStatic check uses to.endsWith(".pdf"). Could we make the PDF detection handle query/hash suffixes, or confirm that all PDF destinations here are guaranteed to end exactly in .pdf?

Also@piyushtripathi9424 could you add this as an agenda item in the meeting minutes for the websites meet on Monday, we could discuss it there? |

Looks good overall and the nested-link issue is handled cleanly. One thing before approval: mailto: is included in isExternalOrStatic, which means it also gets target="_blank". Mail links don't need a new browsing context and this can leave an unnecessary blank tab in some browsers. Could you handle mailto: separately and only use _blank for links where you intentionally want a new tab?
A non-blocking suggestion - The .pdf detection is case-sensitive, so .PDF wouldn't be recognized.

@PARTH-TUSSLE I've incorporated your feedback:

Thanks for this.
I checked all the call sites and each one gets the right element: <Link> for internal routes, <a> for static/external/mailto, and a <div> for the coming-soon cards.
One thing to confirm before merge: the Meet Five PDF used to open in the same tab and now opens in a new one. @AnkitRewar11 mentioned to keep the old behavior and the reply said done, but AdventuresVol/index.js still sets target="_blank" for PDFs. If the new tab is intentional, that's fine, just please confirm here so the thread is closed.

Thanks @hiyach28 for reviewing, yes, the new tab behavior is intentional! To provide a bit of context: AdventuresVol originally used a plain tag for all destinations, which is why PDFs used to open in the same tab. During this PR, I introduced the isExternalOrStatic classification to properly separate internal routing () from external/static destinations (). As part of that, I added target="_blank" so that external links and PDFs open in a new tab, which provides a better user experience by ensuring users don't lose their place on the site. @AnkitRewar11 had initially asked about this change, but @PARTH-TUSSLE later requested that we preserve the external/static link handling (including the target="_blank"), so I restored it in the final implementation. |

Looks good to me. The mailto: handling and case-insensitive PDF detection address the requested changes, and the nested-link issue is cleanly resolved. 👍
Thanks @PARTH-TUSSLE for review and approving !! |
Please update the PR description to mention that external links and PDFs now open in a new tab, and that internal links use client-side routing. |
Done updated the PR description. |
LGTM, thanks for working on this @piyushtripathi9424 🙌 |
Description
This PR fixes the hydration mismatch layout shift on the Meet Five and Community Handbook cards. The shift was caused by invalid HTML (nested
<a>tags). To resolve this and improve navigation behavior:
<span>tags to safely remove the nesting and fix the layout shift.<Link>component.target="_blank" rel="noreferrer") for a better user experience.mailto:links are handled separately (withouttarget="_blank") so they no longer open unnecessary blank tabs in the browser.isExternalOrStaticURL check has been hardened to accurately and case-insensitively detect.pdfextensions, even when query parameters or hash fragments are present in the URL.Screen Recording
