Validate Java 25 while preserving Java 17 compatibility - #310
Adopt Java 25 as a build/test runtime without raising the SDK's Java 17 minimum. Keep Java 17 bytecode/API targets, add Java 17/21/25 CI validation, preserve dependency patches, and address reviewer findings in separately scoped commits.
Why this is valuable
Consumers on Java 17 or 21 should not need a JVM upgrade to receive dependency patches and SDK fixes. Building with a newer JDK does not require publishing newer bytecode. This PR therefore keeps --release 17 and validates the minimum runtime alongside newer LTS JDKs. Any Java 25-only baseline belongs in a separately justified breaking-release proposal.
Changes
Retain Java 17 compiler targets for SDK modules and examples, and document Java 17+ consumer compatibility.
Add a Java 17, 21, and 25 CI matrix; upload coverage only from the Java 25 job.
Replace Java 21-only List.getFirst() calls in added tests with Java 17-compatible access.
Keep Jackson Core/Databind 2.22.3 and Spring Framework 7.0.9 independent of compiler targets. Explicit BOM ordering prevents Spring Boot from overriding Jackson patch versions; root Spring management also aligns the report aggregator.
Add 35 tests above the original 268-test baseline, including reviewer regression coverage.
Reviewer fixes (separate commits)
e863f47: preserve Java 17 compatibility and add the CI runtime matrix.
27ebc58: unwrap actual feature-flag values instead of exposing generated-wrapper metadata; test primitive values, nulls, and list/single API paths.
6d0f41e: read the OAuth registration's grant type rather than its client secret; test configured precedence and fallback.
64bab0b: test production entitlement validation and missing-session behavior instead of the map-backed override.
3dac9e1: complete Jackson/Spring BOM precedence and document corrections.
Validation
Final verification used a fresh isolated copy matching all tracked source/configuration files:
Regression tests reproduced both production bugs before their fixes and passed afterward.
Java 21 is configured in CI but was not run locally; no Java 21 JDK is installed. No passing matrix CI result is claimed for the latest push.
The original Java 17 baseline failure was not reproducible in a clean baseline copy (268 tests pass), so it is not a reason to drop Java 17 support. The earlier dependency scan is historical; this follow-up verifies patched resolution and runtime compatibility, not a fresh scan of all current advisories.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Feature flag values are now returned in their actual form.
OAuth2 grant type selection now uses the configured registration value, with a fallback to the local setting.
Build and Compatibility
Builds now run against Java 17, 21, and 25.
Updated dependency version management for Spring Framework and Jackson.
Tests
Expanded coverage across authentication, account management, OAuth2 configuration, and session behavior.
- Upgraded Jackson Core/Databind to 2.22.3.
- Aligned Spring Framework modules to 7.0.9.
- Re-scan found no known CVEs requiring fixes.
- Security: Patched reported Jackson and Spring Framework CVEs with aligned BOM versions.

Add focused tests for account DTOs, pagination, auth helpers, session defaults, and manager API behavior. The full Java 25 reactor now passes 298 tests with 70.53% aggregate line coverage.

The PR updates the Maven CI Java matrix and BOM imports, changes feature-flag value conversion and OAuth2 grant-type lookup, and adds tests across the core, J2EE, management, and Spring Boot modules.

The grant type lookup reads the configured registration grant type and falls back to the local grant type. Tests cover these cases and related OAuth2 and proxy properties.
The build may expose more GitHub token authority to pull-request code than it needs, and an API-error test can accept the wrong result. Address those concerns before merging.

Map.of() forces getAuthorizationGrantType() to use the local fallback. A kinde registration instead maps to Registration::getClientSecret(), so this new test does not detect the existing configured-path bug. Add a separate assertion with distinct secret and grant-type values. No other test directly exercises this getter with a configured registration.

only still-valid issues, skip the rest with a brief reason, keep changes
minimal, and validate.

unchanged.
Exercise production Entitlements.getEntitlement for edge cases.
TestEntitlements.getEntitlement returns values.get(key), so the assertions at lines 57-59 do not enter production Entitlements.getEntitlement. They cannot detect regressions in production key validation or missing-session handling. Keep this map-backed fixture for hasEntitlement, but use a separate subclass that overrides only getSession() for the getEntitlement assertions. The accounts-client tests cover lower-level key validation, not this production wrapper.

Import the Jackson 2 patch BOM before Spring Boot in Spring modules and examples; align aggregate Spring dependencies through the root BOM. Document the reviewer fixes and retain Java 17 compatibility. Clean Java 17 and 25 builds plus cross-runtime tests pass all 303 tests with identical patched dependency trees.
