chore(deps): restrict Dependabot to security updates only - #91
Conversation
Set open-pull-requests-limit to 0 for both ecosystems so version update PRs are no longer opened. Security update PRs are not subject to that limit and keep being raised for Dependabot alerts. Drop the version-update-only groups and ignore rules; the ignore rules could otherwise suppress a security fix. WalkthroughThe Dependabot configuration now documents its security-update behavior and sets the open-pull-request limit to zero for Gradle and GitHub Actions. It also removes Gradle dependency groups and version ignores. Priority: ⬇️ Low Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to A future OkHttp security update requiring 5.5.0 could be opened but fail the Android checks until the project supports compileSdk 37. No such update is currently established, so the risk is bounded. 🚥 Pre-merge checks | ✅ 5✅ Passed checks (5 passed)

- Line 17: Keep Dependabot updates for OkHttp 5.5.0 excluded until CI targets
compileSdk 37. Add or retain the appropriate ignore rule for the OkHttp
dependency, including the catalog’s logging-interceptor update; do not use
open-pull-requests-limit as the exclusion mechanism.

What
Dependabot should only open a PR when a Dependabot alert (vulnerability) can be fixed — not to keep dependencies up to date.
open-pull-requests-limit: 0for thegradleandgithub-actionsecosystems in.github/dependabot.yml. This turns off routine version-update PRs. Per GitHub's docs, security-update PRs are not subject to this limit, so they are still opened for alerts.groupsandignoreblocks. Groups only applied to version updates, and theignorerules (androidx.core:core-ktx> 1.16.0,okhttp3>= 5.0.0) could otherwise suppress a security fix. If a security fix needs one of those versions, the PR will now open and may fail CI because of the AGP 8.9.2 limitation, which surfaces the vulnerability instead of hiding it.Before / after merging
