When you land on someone's profile, nothing tells you whether people you already follow follow them too. That's the quickest signal for deciding whether to follow someone, and today you'd have to open their followers list and scan it yourself.
Change
Under the follower counts, a profile now shows which of the people you follow also follow this user: Followed by @jessarcher, @nunomaduro and 7 others you follow, with up to three small avatars.
The most followed of them are named first, so the names are the ones you're likeliest to recognise.
Each handle opens that profile. The avatars and "N others you follow" open a new Followers you know list, which uses the same layout as Followers and Following and also appears as a tab between them. On phones the tab reads You know, so the three tabs fit on one line.
The line is hidden for guests, on your own profile, and when none of the people you follow follow them.
Profile
Followers you know
Implementation
FollowersYouKnowQuery intersects the user's followers with the viewer's follows on the existing follows table, so there's no migration. preview() returns the count and the top three by follower count, and builder() feeds the list newest follow first, like the other people lists.
UserController::show passes it as a lazy followersYouKnow prop (null for guests and your own profile), so partial reloads such as following someone or paging commits don't run it.
GET @{user}/followers-you-know (user-followers-you-know.index) sits behind auth and renders user/connections with a new followers_you_know type. ListUserFollowersYouKnowRequest returns not-found across a block, like the Followers and Following pages.
PageTabs takes an optional shortTitle that replaces the title below sm. Nothing else passes one, so other tab bars are unchanged.
KNOWLEDGE_BASE.md documents the line and the list under profiles.
Checked
Tried it in a browser on the local dev server at 1280×900 and 390×844, in light and dark, signed in as a user who follows two of the profile's followers. In the screenshots, local accounts were given these GitHub names and avatars.
Feature tests cover the preview's count and ordering, the empty case, guests and your own profile, the list's contents and order, guests on the list, and blocks. Unit tests cover the sentence for 1, 2, 3 and many people.
php artisan test --parallel (3384 tests), bun run test:types, bun run test:lint, Pint, PHPStan and Rector pass.

New Features
Profile pages now show a “Followed by” preview of followers you know, with avatars, links to up to two profiles, and a count of others.
Signed-in users can browse a dedicated, paginated list of followers they also follow.
Connection tabs include “Followers you know” when viewing another user’s connections while signed in.
The list is ordered with the most recently followed connections first.
A profile now says which of the people you follow also follow this
user: "Followed by @A, @b and N others you follow", with their avatars,
most followed first. It opens a Followers you know list, also offered
as a tab beside Followers and Following. Hidden for guests, on your own
profile, and when you know none of their followers.

Walkthrough
The profile now shows a preview of people who follow the profile and whom the signed-in viewer follows. A new authenticated page lists those people, with block-based access denial and cursor pagination.

Summary
Build and supply the preview app/Queries/FollowersYouKnowQuery.php, app/Http/Controllers/UserController.php, tests/Feature/Controllers/UserControllerTest.php
The query counts mutual followers and returns up to three, ordered by follower count and user ID. The profile response includes the preview for signed-in viewers who view another user’s profile.
Serve the followers-you-know list app/Http/Requests/ListUserFollowersYouKnowRequest.php, routes/web.php, app/Http/Controllers/UserFollowersYouKnowController.php, tests/Feature/Controllers/UserFollowersYouKnowControllerTest.php
The authenticated route serves followers whom the viewer follows, ordered by follow time and paginated 30 at a time. The request denies access when either user blocks the other.
Render the preview and connection tab resources/js/components/followers-you-know.tsx, resources/js/pages/user/show.tsx, resources/js/components/page-tabs.tsx, resources/js/pages/user/connections.tsx, tests/Unit/FollowersYouKnow.test.tsx, KNOWLEDGE_BASE.md
The profile displays preview avatars and names, with a link to the full list. The connections page adds a conditional tab and empty state. Tab labels can use a short title on phones. The profile entry documents the preview and list.

Merge Risk: Low · previous review 41432
The new Followers you know sentence tests are skipped by CI, so regressions in that UI behavior could pass. Update the unit-test command before relying on this coverage.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 41432
The feature reads existing follow relationships without adding privileges or changing stored relationships. The profile preview and new list retain authentication and bidirectional block controls. No introduced security boundary bypass was identified, although broader dependency and runtime coverage remains incomplete.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The new capability exposes viewer-specific social-graph results for requested profiles. Its observed authority is relationship lookup using the signed-in viewer, not selection of an arbitrary viewer identity or mutation of another account's relationships.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The profile checks for a block in either direction before rendering any preview, then restricts the preview to authenticated non-self viewers. The new list route requires authentication, and its request authorization denies blocked pairs as not found. Although the shared query does not enforce blocking itself, both identified callers enforce the boundary before exposing its results.
observed — The new preview renders handles as React text and constructs profile and list links through application route helpers. It does not introduce raw HTML rendering for those handles.

Explanation
The title "feat: show followers you know on profiles" matches the main change. The PR adds a mutual-follow preview on profile pages, a "Followers you know" list, and a supporting query, controller, and route. The title is short, specific, and uses the feat: prefix. It omits the list page, but the preview on profiles is the primary user-facing change.
