Closes #487

  • Private lists of developers, each with its own log
  • Pin up to 2 lists as tabs next to Following, Latest and Trending; on phones the tabs scroll instead of cutting names
  • Add someone to a list from their profile; nobody is notified
  • Someone else's list is a 404; list names are encrypted
  • Deleting a list asks first; lists are in the data export and go with the account

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Create up to 10 private developer lists per account, with up to 250 members each, and add or remove developers from their profiles.
    • View list members and a feed of their latest top-level commits, subject to visibility, mute, and block settings.
    • Pin up to two lists alongside your logs and access list management from the navigation.
    • Include your lists, member handles, creation dates, and pin details in account exports.
    • Delete lists without changing members’ existing follows.

Walkthrough

The pull request adds private developer lists with membership management, pinning, and member commit feeds. It adds authenticated list routes and integrates list data into profiles, log pages, and account exports.

Changes: Private developer lists

Layer / File(s) Summary
List data and ownership
database/migrations/*, app/Models/UserList.php, app/Models/User.php, database/factories/UserListFactory.php, tests/Unit/Models/UserListTest.php, tests/Unit/Actions/DeleteUserTest.php
Adds list and membership tables, the UserList model and user relationships, and a factory. The model defines list limits and encrypted names. Tests cover model behavior and list cleanup when users are deleted.
List management and access
app/Actions/*UserList*.php, app/Http/Requests/*UserList*.php, app/Http/Controllers/UserList*.php, routes/web.php, app/Providers/AppServiceProvider.php, tests/Feature/Controllers/UserList*Test.php, tests/Feature/RateLimitTest.php
Adds authenticated list, membership, and pin endpoints with ownership checks, validation, capacity limits, and rate limiting. Feature tests cover list management, membership restrictions, pinning, and access control.
List feeds and account integrations
app/Queries/UserListCommitsQuery.php, app/Http/Controllers/{UserListController,LogController,UserController}.php, app/Actions/CreateExport.php, tests/Feature/Controllers/{UserListControllerTest,LogControllerTest,UserControllerTest,ExportControllerTest}.php
Adds filtered, paginated list commits and member data. Adds pinned-list props to logs, optional list membership data to profiles, and owned lists to account exports. Tests cover these response data changes and feed filtering.
List interfaces and navigation
resources/js/components/*list*.tsx, resources/js/components/{app-nav,log-tabs,page-tabs,user-menu-content}.tsx, resources/js/lib/user-lists.ts, resources/js/pages/user-list/*, resources/js/pages/{log/show,user/show}.tsx, resources/js/types/*, KNOWLEDGE_BASE.md, PRODUCT.md
Adds list management and detail pages, profile membership controls, and pinned-list log tabs. Adds navigation, scrollable tabs, list types, error-toast handling, and documentation. Lists are excluded from the mobile navigation bar.

Merge Risk: Minimal · up to e40a4

The reported list-export failure is fixed, and no remaining issue identified here blocks merging after normal checks.

Security architecture risk: Low · up to e40a4

Private-list access is consistently tied to the signed-in owner, and list feeds retain existing visibility and blocking controls. No cross-account disclosure or unauthorized mutation was established. Capacity limits are not atomic under concurrency, and production rollout and concurrent failure behavior remain unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • observed — New mutation authority is limited to authenticated owners' lists. A target handle selects a member but does not confer ownership or write access to that member's account. Membership addition performs only a pivot update and does not send a notification.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — List show, delete, pin and membership mutations enforce ownership before serialization or writes. Foreign-list access is denied as not found. Index responses query through the authenticated user's list relationship.
  • observed — Blocking can leave stored membership intact, but list displays and counts exclude users across either-direction blocks. Feed reads also apply existing moderation visibility, block and mute filters, containing a block created after membership authorization at subsequent reads.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Composite pivot uniqueness prevents committed duplicate membership pairs. Foreign keys cascade list and account deletion into membership cleanup. Sequential add and remove actions preserve membership state on repetition; concurrent duplicate-insert error handling was not verified.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — If list and member quotas are intended as strict resource-containment boundaries, serialize each capacity check with its write using an appropriate owner or list lock. The current rate limits reduce request volume but do not make cardinality checks atomic.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #487 requires grouping developers, showing their commits, and pinning the list at the top. The PR adds private UserList records and member add/remove flows, queries member top-level commits in UserListCommitsQuery, renders pinned lists in LogTabs, and enforces the two-list pin limit. Feature tests cover list membership, commit filtering, and pinning.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay connected to issue #487. List ownership, private names, profile membership controls, deletion, export support, navigation, rate limiting, responsive tabs, and automated tests support the list feature. No unrelated change is established by the reviewed summary.
