fix: link organization mentions in the case they are written - #1321
When a stale organization profile holds the same handle in another case (laravel and Laravel), @Laravel now links Laravel and @laravel links laravel, like organization pages. Before, it linked whichever row came last, so the commit could be missing from that organization's mentions.
Any other case (@LARAVEL) links always the same one, ordered by handle, like /@LARAVEL.
Mentions::handlesAsWritten() keeps the written case; handles() is unchanged.

Walkthrough
Mention extraction now preserves handle casing. Organization lookup prefers profiles whose handles match the casing in the text, then retains one organization per lowercase handle.
Changes: Organization mention resolution
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Preserve written handle casing app/Services/Mentions.php, tests/Unit/Services/MentionsTest.php
handlesAsWritten returns unique handles in written order and preserves their casing. handles lowercases those results. Unit tests cover casing, ordering, deduplication, exclusion of @Override, and text without mentions.
The query matches lowercase handles, prefers a profile whose handle matches the mention’s casing, and retains one organization per lowercase handle. Feature tests cover case-based selection, redirect-based profile resolution, and distinct handles 100 and 1e2.
dev-null-sh/dev-null.sh#938: The RFC describes organization mentions by handle. This change addresses mention resolution when organization handles differ only by capitalization.

dev-null-sh/dev-null.sh#1262: Introduced organization mention linking, Mentions, and MentionedOrganizationsQuery.
No established issue currently prevents merging this case-aware mention update after normal checks.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 11f63
The change selects between existing organization profiles without changing membership or permissions. Existing transaction, retry and cleanup controls remain in place. No introduced security weakness was identified in the examined paths, but validation was not exhaustive.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — In the examined callers, attacker-controlled mention text can influence which existing, case-colliding organization receives an association or preview link. The result is consumed as mention metadata, not as an organization membership or administration grant. No introduced cross-organization privilege path was identified.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Written text is reduced to handles by the existing parser, including code-span exclusion. The query excludes resolved user handles and supplies remaining handles through whereIn against a constant SQL expression. The replacement join preserves the existing shared-ID identity mapping; the inspected Profile model defines no additional global scope or authorization hook removed by that replacement.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — The existing cleanup paths remain independent of live handle selection. Final commit-content erasure locks the commit and removes topics together with its body and mentions; organization deletion removes associations by stored organization ID. These controls continue to contain the lifecycle of associations selected by the changed query.

Both commits can select the same wrong profile if the orderBy('handle') fallback regresses. Assert that each commit references the organization selected by /@LARAVEL, not only that the commits agree. (raw.githubusercontent.com) Based on learnings, a documented result order needs an order-sensitive assertion.

Update the organization_mentions assertions in this test to verify that each
commit references the specific organization selected by /@LARAVEL, rather than
only checking that both commits reference the same organization. Preserve the
count assertion and make the expected organization check order-sensitive.

@hbenabdallah Thanks for the update. The assertions you describe check that both commits link to the organization opened by /@LARAVEL, rather than merely selecting the same organization twice. They also catch a reversed fallback order.

Add a unique tie-breaker to both organization selectors.
When laravel and Laravel both exist, @LARAVEL gives both rows the same sortByDesc value. Under the configured case-insensitive MySQL/MariaDB collations, ORDER BY handle also ties them. SQL does not define the order of tied rows, so separate queries can select different profiles. The mention can then store a different organization ID from the one selected by /@LARAVEL.
Add orderBy('id') after orderBy('handle') in the mention query and both canonical-route binding queries.

@coderabbitai Skipping the orderBy('id') tie-breaker: we run on Postgres, where handle is unique and the collation is deterministic, so ORDER BY handle never ties.

@hbenabdallah Under those PostgreSQL constraints, ORDER BY handle already gives a total order. The orderBy('id') tie-breaker is redundant. I withdraw that suggestion.

Thanks for this! I'm exploring a solution at the database level instead: making profile handles case-insensitive in Postgres (citext) and unique whatever their case, which would be simpler and apply to every handle lookup at once (users and organizations), without per-query lowercasing or exact-case tie-breaks. I'll link the PR here once it's up; let's hold this one until then.
