feat: list organization pages in the sitemap - #1289
Organization pages (/@laravel) are public and indexable, but no sitemap listed them. Every organization profile is now listed in sitemaps/organizations-{YYYY-MM}.xml, by the month its page was made, dated by the last change of its GitHub profile or of the approved commits that mention it.
SitemapQuery lists organization profiles, left-joined to one aggregate of their last approved mention. Placeholder handles (_renamed-…, given to a profile whose handle was taken on GitHub until its next sync) are left out: no GitHub handle starts with _.
New OrganizationSitemapController and ShowOrganizationSitemapRequest (404 for impossible or empty months), in the cookie-free sitemap group. The index lists organization months between profile months and commit days.
New tests: month edges, organizations with and without mentions, placeholder handles left out, lastmod from the profile or a mention (pending ones ignored), 404s, no cookies.
No UI change, so no captures or device checks apply.
Independent review
Independent agent review: PASS on 755c25b4, then PASS on the final head c7589280 (aggregate join instead of a subquery per organization, and the organization sitemap added to the cookie test). It confirmed the \_ LIKE escape, that no user can shadow a listed organization URL, and timed the queries on 20k synthetic organizations (under 0.1s).
Limitations
Like profiles, an organization's lastmod moves on every GitHub sync even when nothing visible changed.

Walkthrough
The change adds monthly sitemaps for organization profiles and lists their routes in the sitemap index. Organization entries exclude placeholder handles and use the later of profile updates and approved mentioning commits as their update timestamp.

Summary
Organization sitemap query data app/Queries/SitemapQuery.php
Adds queries for organization sitemap months and entries. The queries exclude placeholder handles and use the later of profile updates and approved mentioning commits as the update time.
Adds month parsing and authorization, a public monthly route, and a controller that renders organization URLs with Atom-formatted update times. Tests cover month boundaries, exclusions, update times, XML content type, and 404 responses.
Organization entries in sitemap index app/Http/Controllers/SitemapController.php, tests/Feature/Controllers/SitemapControllerTest.php
Adds organization months to the sitemap index. Tests cover the organization sitemap entry and cache headers.

Merge Risk: Low · previous review 7206b
Organization sitemap timestamps can become stale after mention deletion, but the impact is limited to crawl freshness and is suitable for follow-up.
Security architecture risk: Minimal · up to 7206b
The new sitemap publishes links to existing public organization pages and update timestamps. The inspected flow preserves approval filtering, validates month selection, and reuses escaped XML output. No material security risk introduced or worsened by this change was identified.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The change increases bulk discoverability of organization pages across eligible months. The traced response exposes organization URLs and update metadata, not commit bodies or pending-mention data; it does not grant a new mutation capability.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The request constrains the externally supplied month before selecting sitemap contents. Stored organization handles become named-route URLs, and the reused XML template uses escaped interpolation for URLs and timestamps rather than raw dynamic markup.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — The endpoint joins the existing sitemap group that excludes web session and cookie middleware and configures public caching with a one-hour maximum age and ETag. Its payload is not personalized.

Touch affected organization profiles when deleting a mentioning commit.
The organization page removes the deleted commit because OrganizationMentionsQuery uses the soft-deleted Commit model. The sitemap query then removes that commit from last_mentions without updating profiles.updated_at. The organization sitemap can report an older timestamp, and the sitemap index can remain stale.
Update affected organization profiles in the deletion transaction only for approved commits.

Update the organization timestamp when a new topic link is created.
UpdateCommitTopics can add an organization link to an existing approved commit. When the organization is already fresh, that path does not update its profile. CreateCommitTopics then inserts the link without changing either commits.updated_at or profiles.updated_at. The organization sitemap and its index lastmod can therefore remain stale.

Touch affected organization profiles during account deletion.
DeleteUser::handle() removes commit_topics and deletes or soft-deletes the user's commits without calling DeleteCommit. Therefore, a profile touch added to DeleteCommit will not cover account deletion. When the deleted commits were the latest approved mentions, the organization page changes but profiles.updated_at does not advance, so the organization sitemap lastmod can remain stale.

Declining these on purpose, for the same reason as on #1287. lastmod is a crawl hint, and keeping it exact on removals or late topic links would mean touching profiles from DeleteCommit, DeleteUser and the commit topic actions: sitemap concerns spread across write paths outside this change. An organization page losing or gaining one mention is picked up on the regular recrawl. Listed as a known limitation; can be a follow-up if it ever matters.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
@mnapoli Understood. Exact lastmod tracking for removals and late topic links is an accepted limitation. I won’t press for profile timestamp updates across those write paths in this PR.
Would you like a GitHub issue to track the optional follow-up?
Organization pages are public and indexable but no sitemap listed them. They are now listed by the month
their page was made, dated by the last change of their GitHub profile or of the approved commits that
mention them. Placeholder handles of profiles renamed away on GitHub are left out.
