- Line 438: Update decodeItem’s long-string and long-list handling to verify the
declared payload length fits within the input remaining after the header before
adding header and payload lengths. Return an RlpError for oversized lengths so
validate does not encounter an overflow.
- Line 449: Update validateItem to avoid unbounded recursive list validation:
use an iterative traversal or enforce an explicit nesting limit that returns a
validation error before exhausting the call stack.
Review comments at @tests/conformance_test.zig:
- Line 43: Update the transaction checks around eth.rlp.validate(tx) to parse
the outer list and enforce the required field count for the transaction type,
including legacy payloads, before treating each vector as structurally valid.
Apply the same validation to the corresponding check at the other indicated
location.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Return an error for oversized RLP lengths.
On a 64-bit target, input beginning with 0xbf and eight 0xff length bytes makes readLength return maxInt(usize). The subsequent 1 + len_bytes + len in decodeItem overflows. validate then panics in a safety-checked build instead of returning an RlpError. Check that the declared length fits within the remaining input before adding it to the header length. Apply the check to both long strings and long lists. (ziglang.org)

Bound or remove recursive list validation.
A canonically encoded list can contain another list without a depth limit. If enough lists are nested, validateItem exhausts the call stack instead of returning a validation result. Use an iterative traversal or an explicit nesting limit that returns an error. Zig does not protect this recursion from stack overflow. (ziglang.org)

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift
Check transaction payload structure, not only RLP validity.
eth.rlp.validate accepts any complete canonical RLP item. For example, a type-2 envelope containing 0xc0 passes the type-byte and RLP checks, although an empty list has none of the required EIP-1559 fields. A legacy 0x80 payload likewise passes its RLP check. Parse the outer list and check the required field counts for each transaction type before treating a vector as structurally valid.

What
Add a CI-wired conformance harness for a curated subset of official Ethereum RLP and transaction envelopes plus Trezor BIP-39 English vectors.
Why
Issue #74 called for canonical external vectors so the crypto and serialization code is checked against independently generated data instead of only self-computed values.
How
eth.rlp.validatesupport for complete canonical RLP items.zig build conformance-testand embedded, attributed fixture files.Testing
zig build conformance-testwas not run locally because Zig 0.17 is not installed in this environment; CI should run the new step.Closes #74
