what is the field 'chargingType'? #398

Closed

Description

@manliojrc

I've been trying to understand what is the meaning of the numerical values associated with the field chargingType.
Does anyone have an idea? I can't seem to find anything about it in the documentation.

So I've studied it a bit in the last days, and it seems that:

  • 0 stands for deep sleep: when the car stops sending updates, then it's gone into deep sleep and you get a 0
  • 1 stands for just parked: if you press P and exit the car, after a few seconds you get a 1
  • 3 stands for running: if the car is running, you get a 3
  • 6 stands for AC charging

No DC charging so far, so I assume I'll get a different number.
And it seems AC charging is always 6, regardless of the recharge power you set (6/8/16/MAX A).

Adding that, when charging ends, then 10 is reported.

not sure if it means 'charge ended', or '100% reached', or even 'battery balancing completed' (which should be done when AC charging to 100%). will investigate more

I got other two codes recently

9 for stopping the charge using the button in the infotainment

16 for unplugging the car while charging was still ongoing (opened the car, unplugged it, didn't stop charging from app or anywhere else before, and charge hadn't still reached the set level)

Thanks for working this out. I added the values you found to the README as observed (not official) meanings: #472. The issue will close when it is merged.

I checked the remaining values against about 89k raw API responses from one vehicle (Mar 2024 – Oct 2026):

    • 10 (charging ended): supported. 17 of 24 samples follow AC charging while the car is still plugged in, then it goes back to 1.
    • 9: only 2 samples, both right after DC charging. I can't tell if it means "stopped from the infotainment".
    • 0 (deep sleep): not supported by this data. It appears as 31 isolated samples between 1 and 3, mostly unplugged, not as a sustained state. A sleeping car simply returns no data, so you may only see 0 as a blip.
    • 16: never appears in my data, so it stays as reported.
    • 4 and 12: 3 samples each, around the start or end of charging. Possibly transition states.

The table in #472 is updated.

Documented in the README (#472, now in develop).
