Description

download_url suppresses PermissionError and NotADirectoryError throughout downloading and publication, then logs a successful download even when moving the file failed. Track successful completion of shutil.move and propagate these errors before publication completes. Keep the historical exemption for temporary-directory cleanup errors after successful publication, along with existing cache/hash checks.

This does not repair a partial destination left by a failed cross-filesystem move.

Validation

Reused the existing handoff source-level receipts for normal publication/cache hits, pre-publication errors, failed partial moves, hash rejection, and retained post-publication cleanup suppression. Current upstream file identity matches the reviewed baseline and the final diff was reviewed. No checks were rerun; no full MONAI integration suite was run.

Types of changes

  • Bug fix: report unsuccessful download publication accurately.
  • New upstream tests added.
  • Integration tests passed locally.

Prepared with OpenAI Codex assistance; the commit includes DCO sign-off and tool attribution.

📝 Walkthrough

download_url now tracks whether the downloaded file has been moved to its destination. It re-raises PermissionError and NotADirectoryError if publication has not completed. It continues to suppress those exceptions after publication.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 4ccfe

Failures before a download is published now surface to callers instead of being suppressed, but the docstring does not mention these exceptions. Update the docs; the risk of merging is low.

Document the propagated filesystem exceptions.

Before publication completes, this code can propagate PermissionError or NotADirectoryError from destination setup or shutil.move. The Raises section describes denied permission as RuntimeError and associates IOError with urlretrieve. Document the filesystem exceptions so callers know what this function can raise.

As per path instructions, docstrings must “describe each variable, return value, and raised exception in the appropriate section.”

hi @jdotc1 It should be documented that these other exceptions can be raised under these conditions, thanks.
