Few devices need 12V (mostly just mechanical hard disks) and so we can avoid the cost of the PSU module by taking a 5V input. We'd use the same LDO for the BMC, but have a high-side switch to control 5V (and 3.3V) for the rest of the board. Either a barrel jack or a USB-C would work, although USB-C isn't easy to solder (likely 0.85mm pitch).
