MoonWalk: every process on one map, the how-tos moved in, and MoonLive script collections - #143
Conversation
MoonWalk draws every MoonLight process, from a first reader to a release, on one zoomable map in the docs, with search, filters by actor and by system, and done marks; every docs page opens it at its own place. The scenario runners keep one measurement, the per-target contract, and the docs that disagreed with the code or each other now agree.
KPI: 256lights | Desktop:2327KB | tick:8/8/7/2/8/8/284/7/7/10us(FPS:125000/125000/142857/500000/125000/125000/3521/142857/142857/100000) | src:331(83067) | test:244(55912) | functions-over:350
Commit: src +0/-0 lines | test +167/-79 lines | duplicated lines 3586 -> 3586 (+0)
Checks: check_specs, check_prose, build_docs --strict, check_docgen, test_host --python (413) and --js, check_devices, check_firmwares, check_code, build_desktop, test_desktop (2571), run_scenario (32: 17 passed, 15 skipped), check_esp32_built (esp32, esp32s3-n16r8, esp32p4rev3-eth) and collect_kpi passed. Skipped: check_taglines (no front page), build_desktop --no-jit (no MoonLive change), improv_smoke_test (provisioning path untouched). Repo-health: the only firmware move, esp32p4rev3-eth -144 B, comes from a rebuild with no source change.
**Scripts/MoonDeck**
- MoonWalk: `moonwalk/NN-<stage>.yaml`, eleven stage files holding 48 processes (three with their steps: installing on the desktop, the first light show, the commit), validated against `moonwalk/moonwalk.schema.json` by `gen_moonwalk.py`, which the docs build serves as `moonwalk/moonwalk.json`. A step has an actor, conditions on the device, the change or the reader's choice, an action by intent, and expectations; its runners and its systems follow from its action.
- The systems' one list is the architecture's Part table, which gains MoonTube and MoonWalk; a process names only systems the table names.
- The live runner drops the baseline generation: `--update-baseline`, `--compare-baseline`, `test/scenario-baseline.json` and every `bounds` check. The contract and the observations are the measurement.
- `collect_kpi` runs `check_specs` through `uv run`, so the KPI report no longer reads FAIL for a missing package.
- The P4 eth-wifi firmware's description says what holds on IDF v6.1: Ethernet works, WiFi over the C6 associates on some boots; it keeps shipping so users can try it.
**Tests**
- The in-process runner: `live_only` is the one rule keeping a scenario out; a mutate scenario with neither `top` nor `fixture` that does not say so fails; `skip_on` and `bounds` are gone; an op it does not run prints SKIP rather than passing in silence. The three scenarios that relied on the inferred rule say `live_only`.
- `test_scenario_runner.py` pins the SKIP and the new failure against the built runner; `test_gen_moonwalk.py` pins the generator's 14 rules.
**Docs/CI**
- The MoonWalk page and its map button on every page; the model's spec in `docs/work/future/moonwalk.md`; the processes inventory, step 1 of the processes plan, which gains the pilot, the device's state, MoonCloud, GitHub and the backlog as steps.
- Fixes the inventory found: Docker is amd64 and arm64 (the compose file's platform pin goes), the IDF pin is v6.1, the workflow headers count what they build, testing.md runs MoonDeck's scripts rather than ctest, the MoonBase variants, the `{ }` popup, the preset pads, restore applying live, and check_prose as a gate.
**Reviews**
- 👾 the hooks imported jsonschema for every check that imports them → done, the generator imports it inside `build()`.
- 👾 the commit process copied a partial gate list → done, one step points at CLAUDE.md until step 7 moves the gates.
- 👾 an expectation accepted a misspelt key → done, each branch refuses unknown keys, and a test pins it.
- 👾 testing.md said the runner skips `device/` wholesale → done, each carries `live_only`.
- 👾 the spec promised runner filters → done, it says they wait for the runners' adapters.
- 👾 a comment named process.json, a dead guard, an edge id that could collide with a step id, an amd64-only package name, the schema's page description, British spellings → done.
- 👾 the runner change rides with MoonWalk in one commit → accepted: CLAUDE.md asks one commit per cycle and 51 files is inside CodeRabbit's coverage; the change is named here and pinned by a test.

The app gains a MoonWalk button that opens the map in a resizable dialog, marks done what the device's own state shows, and offers the processes for the card in view and the next ones to do. A process now reads whole and live in the map, on the site and in the app, so the first light show and the desktop install are processes rather than pages, their old addresses forwarding there. KPI: 256lights | Desktop:2327KB | tick:7/8/8/2/7/7/269/7/7/10us(FPS:142857/125000/125000/500000/142857/142857/3717/142857/142857/100000) | src:331(83067) | test:244(55912) | functions-over:350 Commit: src +97/-6 lines | test +167/-3 lines | duplicated lines 3586 -> 3586 (+0) Checks: check_specs, check_prose, check_docgen, check_taglines, build_docs --strict, test_host --python (421) and --js (309), check_devices, check_firmwares, check_code, build_desktop, test_desktop (2571), run_scenario (32: 17 passed, 15 skipped), check_esp32_built (esp32, esp32s3-n16r8, esp32p4rev3-eth, each rebuilt for the UI change) and collect_kpi passed. Skipped: build_desktop --no-jit (no MoonLive change), improv_smoke_test (provisioning path untouched). Verified on a board: on a Waveshare ESP32-S3-RGB-Matrix the map marked joining its WiFi done from the board's state. Repo-health: each gate firmware +2 KB, the embedded UI's new button, dialog and renderer forms. **UI** - The 🗺️ button opens MoonWalk in a resizable dialog; one consent covers the help and MoonWalk and names both hosts, the docs site and cdnjs for the map's graph library. - `help.js` renders lists, headings, italics, a clip or a picture on its own line, and fenced code, still escaping everything first and taking only https sources. **Scripts/MoonDeck** - `moonwalk.js`: done from a device's state (`doneOnDevice`, a list counting as its rows), next as the frontier of the dependency graph, the choices Here and Next, the live process view with a platform choice defaulting to the reader's OS, a drag handle between map and text, and steps on the map linked both ways to their sections in the text. It returns a teardown the app calls on close, and reads only the docs theme's color variables, which the app's dialog maps its own colors onto. - `gen_moonwalk.py`: prose links written relative to docs/ and made absolute in moonwalk.json; the plain text of every process under the MoonWalk page for search and readers without JavaScript; a step's `section`. - The installer preview serves the local map, `help.js` included, for `?help=local`. - `check_prose` reads the stage files as Markdown, and `.vale.ini` gives them the pages' rules; the closed-net section names the Linux page where it lives. - `check_esp32_built` counts the UI's own files as inputs whenever the build reads the embedded header, so a UI edit marks a firmware stale; it passed stale firmware before. - The docs hooks link a folder outside docs/ under GitHub's /tree/, a file under /blob/. **Docs/CI** - `tutorials/first-light-show.md` and `how-to/installing-to-desktop.md` are gone, their content in the stage files and their addresses forwarding to the live view through mkdocs-redirects; inbound links follow. - The plan: steps 3 and 4 done, a new step 6 for the installer and MoonDeck as hosts, the process view as step 5, sizes and growth measured, and an appendix of every page and what MoonWalk does with it. - The privacy policy names what the help and MoonWalk fetch and from where. - Backlog: a per-platform MoonLive code cap, and configuring a ColorLight card without Windows. **Tests** - JS: done on a device, next, choices, which steps a choice shows, and the renderer's new forms. - Python: the plain text and absolute links, folder links, the UI files the freshness check watches. **Reviews** - 👾 the consent named one host while the map loads from two → done, the consent, the policy and the UI spec name both. - 👾 every dialog open leaked a Cytoscape instance → done, a teardown on close. - 👾 the map's script knew the app's private color names → done, the app maps its colors onto the docs theme's variables. - 👾 the first light show depended on the desktop install, so a board never offered it → done, it depends on the first look. - 👾 headings sat a level apart between the plain text and the view → done, one demotion rule for every prose field. - 👾 displaced comments, the plain text missing the link rewrite, a second actor listener, plan and spec describing tabs, a dead vale path, two Python shapes, a fence with a blank line → done. - 🐇 the map's fit centered on one node of a set, and a folder link went to /blob/ → done. - Around line 241-242: Wrap the `run` call for the specs check in handling for
`FileNotFoundError` and `subprocess.TimeoutExpired`; on either exception, set

- Around line 73-75: Update the MoonWalk stage-file loading path that calls
yaml.safe_load to use a YAML loader that raises an error on duplicate mapping
keys, so duplicate keys are rejected before schema validation.
Review comments at @moondeck/run/preview_installer.py:
- Around line 392-396: Keep regeneration per request in the
`/moonwalk/moonwalk.json` route, but serialize concurrent runs with a shared
lock and generate into a temporary file. Replace the output file only after
generation succeeds; on a nonzero exit or execution error, clean up the
temporary file and return HTTP 500 without serving stale output.
Review comments at @src/ui/app.js:
- Around line 2860-2865: Update docsSiteConsent to use safeLocalGet for the
LS_HELP_CONSENT read so blocked local storage does not throw before consent is
requested. Update the test’s extracted-function setup to stub safeLocalGet
instead of lsRead; leave the existing guarded write unchanged.
- Around line 2888-2920: Update openWalk to require source-specific consent
before importing WALK_URL_LOCAL when LS_HELP_SOURCE is local; do not let
docsSiteConsent or published-source consent authorize that import. Add a
local-source consent prompt stating that the module’s JavaScript runs inside the
device UI and can access device API state, and proceed only after that consent
is granted.
Review comments at @src/ui/help.js:

Wait for the manual final step before marking first-light-show done.
When first-look is reader-marked and the earlier first-light-show expectations hold on the device, doneOnDevice ignores the manual reboot step and marks the process complete. The app passes that result through done to nextOf, so first-script can become eligible before reboot verification.
The specification defines a process as done when its last step is. Evaluate only the last step for device completion. This leaves the manual process available for the reader mark.

Keep per-request live regeneration, but make generation serialized and atomic.
Per-request regeneration is intentional for live preview, so do not add an mtime cache. However, ThreadingTCPServer allows concurrent handlers to write the same JSON file. The generator also runs with check=False, so a failed run can leave a stale file or cause a missing-file response without an explicit generation error.
Serialize generation with a lock, write to a temporary file, replace the output only after success, and return HTTP 500 when generation fails.

Keep regeneration per request in the `/moonwalk/moonwalk.json` route, but
serialize concurrent runs with a shared lock and generate into a temporary file.
Replace the output file only after generation succeeds; on a nonzero exit or
execution error, clean up the temporary file and return HTTP 500 without serving
stale output.

Use source-specific consent for the local MoonWalk module.
?help=local stores mm_helpSource="local" before consent is checked. A previous mm_helpConsent="1" then allows openWalk() to import http://localhost:8421/assets/moonwalk.js without another prompt. The prompt names only the docs site and cdnjs.
The URL is fixed, but a server listening on port 8421 supplies its content. The imported module runs in the device page and receives the /api/state object. Require separate consent for the local source, and state that its JavaScript runs inside the device UI with access to device API state. Do not reuse the published-source consent for this path.

Update openWalk to require source-specific consent before importing
WALK_URL_LOCAL when LS_HELP_SOURCE is local; do not let docsSiteConsent or
published-source consent authorize that import. Add a local-source consent
prompt stating that the module’s JavaScript runs inside the device UI and can
access device API state, and proceed only after that consent is granted.

The help and MoonWalk link to each other: a module's help lists the processes it takes part in and a control's help the step that sets it, in the app and on the site's card decks. In the map, Show me selects a step's card and outlines its control, and a bar under it holds the current step, moving on when the device's state shows it done. Installing is one process with a platform choice, Docker included, and every step the device already shows done is ticked. Skipped: run_scenario (no C++ or pipeline change), build_desktop --no-jit (no MoonLive change), improv_smoke_test (provisioning path untouched). Verified on a board: on a Waveshare ESP32-S3-RGB-Matrix (esp32s3-n32r16, installed by URL) the help links, Show me, the bar under its control while scrolling and the bar moving on from the board's state. Repo-health: each firmware +2.2 to 2.3 KB, the embedded UI's links, bar wiring and target lookup. **UI** - With help on, a module's help lists its MoonWalk processes and a control's help the step that sets it; a tap opens the map at that step, in the app rather than a popup. - `moonwalk.json` loads with the help, under its one consent; `?help=local` asks once, when the link sets the local source. - `showTarget` selects a step's card through `revealModule` (the `?open=` logic, shared), scrolls to the control and outlines it; every control row carries `data-control`. - The bar follows each state change, after the render so a card the state just added is there to show. **Scripts/MoonDeck** - `moonwalk.js`: steps name module types, the help's key; expectations take a range (`minimum`, `maximum`); `follow()` draws the checklist bar under the step's target, coach-mark style, at the bottom when the step has none in view; Show me in the panel; a done step ticked; the process title and step lines in the accent color, the text at the panel's size; `open` opens the map at a process or a step. - `gen_moonwalk.py`: checks every type and control a step names against `help.json`; `byModule` keyed by type with the type a step adds; a new `byControl`; every process has its anchor in the plain text. - `help-deck.js`: the site's card decks show the same MoonWalk links. - MoonDeck: a run's log records the arguments that ran, which a step is matched by; every file served through one sender, `no-cache` included. **Docs/CI** - Stages: the ESP32 and computer installs are one process with a platform choice, Docker its fifth option; Set up folded into Install; settings and updating are one step each for every platform; titles, goals and dependencies tuned; the first light show asks for a visible change (a 32 by 8 grid, three balls) and brightness 1 to 20. - The plan: steps 7 and 8 done; "tour" gone from the vocabulary; step 12 ends with an end-user read of every process; step 10 gains the contributor's process, generated files left out and maintainer edits; step 15 a check that could not run writing no report. - `ui.md` describes the links, Show me and the bar; items 5 to 7 unwrapped. README's install link named for the merged process. **Tests** - JS: `walkLinks` and its encoded address, a walk link opening the map, matching by type, ranges, `stepHolds`, `targetOf`, `advance`. - Python: steps refused for a type or control `help.json` lacks, the type-keyed indexes, value or range never both, MoonDeck's last runs from the log's `# args:` line. **Reviews** - 👾 the installer's vouch removed even when the map failed to load → done, removed only once the map drew. - 👾 the state index rebuilt per step and per patch, with an array copy per module → done, once per update and once per panel. - 👾 the host dialog written three times → accepted: each host shows the dialog and the could-not-load message without the remote script, and the hosts share no stylesheet. - 👾 `_send_file` duplicating `_serve_static` without `no-cache` → done, one sender. - 👾 `last_runs` untested → done, `test_moondeck_runs.py`. - 👾 the unused `at`, and a run with a user's flag counting as the plain one → done, the field dropped and runs keyed by the arguments that ran. - 👾 README link text → done. - 👾 the install outro reaching the ESP32 reader → accepted, its heading names its reader. - 👾 `ui.md` hard wraps → done. - 👾 `WALK_PAGE` leaving the local preview on a modified click → accepted. The commit, merge and release gates and a contributor's pull request are MoonWalk processes, and MoonDeck's map shows which checks a change needs, which passes still hold, how long each takes, and runs a step with one click. Building, flashing and the toolchains moved from building.md into processes, its facts into the build-system reference. Every step shows its command with a copy button. KPI: 256lights | Desktop:2343KB | tick:7/7/7/2/9/8/270/7/7/8us(FPS:142857/142857/142857/500000/111111/125000/3703/142857/142857/125000) | src:331(83067) | test:244(55912) | functions-over:350 Commit: src +0/-0 lines | test +207/-51 lines | duplicated lines 3586 -> 3586 (+0) Checks: run as the commit process's own triggered steps through MoonDeck (/api/gates), each recorded so a later change reruns only what it touches: check_specs, check_prose, build_docs --strict, check_docgen, check_taglines, test_host --js (325) and --python (445), check_firmwares passed. Not triggered: check_code, the desktop builds and tests, run_scenario, check_esp32_built, --no-jit, collect_kpi, check_devices (no C++, src/ui or installer change); improv_smoke_test (provisioning untouched). Until step 12 replaces CLAUDE.md's gate diagrams, the commit process in moonwalk/09-contribute.yaml is the more precise list: its C++ steps leave test/js and test/python out, and the JS tests also cover docs/assets. **Scripts/MoonDeck** - `walk_status.py`: a step is triggered when the change touches its paths (GitHub Actions' globs), against HEAD, a branch's merge base (`?base=main`) or every step (`?every=1`); a pass holds while the paths it covers are unchanged since it ran, each run recording the tree it saw through a copied index. Records are written under one lock, renamed into place. - MoonDeck: `/api/gates` replaces `/api/runs`; Run names a step and the server reads its call from the process file; a step's call leaves the card's server running; durations measured into the committed `moondeck/durations.json` (the last five passing runs, slow past 45 s), replacing the declared `speed` on 52 cards; cards for check_prose and check_taglines. - The map: script steps grayed when not needed, ticked when fresh, Run with the measured time, the command with Copy on every step, manual steps' own words; the view remembered per host; Fit selection; quieter step notes. - `gen_moonwalk.py`: a step naming a missing script fails the build; the runner table says "app". **Docs/CI** - Processes: `commit` (21 steps, the contributor's), `contribute-pr`, `pre-merge`, `release`; build-setup, setup-editor, package-desktop and windows-serial-drivers new; the ESP32, IDF bump, network update and Teensy processes filled in. - `how-to/building.md` is gone, forwarding to the desktop process; its facts and the ESP-IDF policy are in `reference/build-system.md`, the reasoning and the tour clip in the MoonDeck explanation, Compose on the Linux page; 26 links repointed. - `generated-files.yml` warns when a fork's pull request changes a metric, the durations or an existing scenario. - The plan: steps 9 and 10 done, the order 9, 10, 11, CLAUDE.md's part moved to step 12, and the appendix beyond the pages with the copies to remove (11 gone, 85 to go). The MoonDeck explanation gains the two menus and one kitchen. **Tests** - Python: the trigger and freshness rule in a repo of its own (untracked files, steps without paths, a pruned tree, merge and release modes, the real index untouched), a step's call only from the process file, concurrent records, a card's own durations, a missing script refused. - JS: done by steps, a call as typed, a range expectation's bounds, a changed path never hiding a step on the site. **Reviews** - 👾 step arguments taken from any client → done, the request names a step and the call comes from the process file. - 👾 the change only against HEAD → done, `?base=` and `?every=1`. - 👾 durations seeded under the wrong calls, one from a run that proved nothing → done, the seven entries dropped. - 👾 record files racing → done, one lock and an atomic rename. - 👾 the board check unrunnable from the map → done, a manual step naming the port. - 👾 durations read once per card → done, once per page. - 👾 a step mapped to another card's call → done, matched by the card's own call first. - 👾 CLAUDE.md and the process files disagree → partly done, three ESP32 freshness steps; the rest is step 12's, said above. - 👾 docs wording on run records and durations → done. - 👾 tests that would not fail against the bug → done, seven Python and one JS test. - 👾 em-dashes and British spelling in repointed lines → done. - 👾 `took()` written twice → accepted: MoonDeck draws its cards before it loads the map's script. Installing, presets and the gallery, updating, backup and restore, diagnosing dark lights, panel cards, control surfaces, the smart home, drivers and multi-device installations are now MoonWalk processes, one reader's path at a time, with each page keeping only its reference. Process text has caps, the map loads a process's prose only when it opens, and the installer's catalog is a JSON Schema. KPI: not measured, collect_kpi runs on a code change and this diff changes no src/ or C++ test. Checks: run as the commit process's triggered steps through MoonDeck: check_specs, check_prose, build_docs --strict, check_taglines, check_esp32_built (esp32, after a build for MoonBase's link), test_host --js (326) and --python (469), check_devices, check_firmwares passed. check_docgen fails only on its new rule "processes over their caps", which opens at 1: `commit`'s 22 steps, folded into subprocesses in step 11e. Not triggered: check_code, the desktop builds and tests, run_scenario, --no-jit, collect_kpi (no C++ change); improv_smoke_test (provisioning untouched). **Scripts/MoonDeck** - `gen_moonwalk.py`: `say` is one action in at most 8 words, a title 10, a goal 25, refused past them; detail, intro, outro, words and steps per reader, processes per stage and the download are capped and reported through `check_docgen` as a ratchet. A process is measured per option of its choice, and an image's alt text and a link's target are not words. - The map carries the steps; each process's intro, outro and details are written to `moonwalk/text/<id>.json`, served by the site, MoonDeck and the installer preview, and fetched when its view opens (40 KB to 35 KB with 11c's processes added). - `mooninstaller/deviceModels.schema.json` holds the catalog's fields and shape; `check_devices` validates against it first and keeps only what a schema cannot know (425 to 339 lines). - `check_docgen` prints a whole-file finding without a dangling colon, and an unbuildable stage file is an error rather than a traceback. - The step line in the text is drawn as its box on the map, bordered in the actor's color, from one color table. - `preview_installer.py`: its docstring says what the code does (`latest`, version `local-dev`), comments unwrapped, em-dashes gone. **Docs/CI** - Stages: Contribute split into Start, Develop, Run on hardware, Test, and Document and commit, so no column holds more than 8. - 11a: install trimmed to its caps (the zip route its own process, the troubleshooting table and the SmartScreen explanation on Troubleshooting, an update step per platform); the installer README cut to its files and the catalog's rules; *Try the web installer locally* replaces its recipes. - 11b: presets, the gallery, backup and restore (with where it goes back as a choice), updating and recovery, and diagnosing dark lights; `updating-firmware.md` is gone and forwards to the process. - 11c: panel cards (ESP32 or desktop, plus LEDVision and the v13 downgrade), control surfaces (five routes, OSC its own process), the smart home (Home Assistant, Homebridge, Hue), driver setup, multi-device (the page is the StadBeest case study), hold-to-play, adding a stream source, and writing a module beside the tutorial. - The spec gains the `say` rule and the caps table; the plan marks 11a to 11c done and places the `commit` fold in 11e. `extends` for catalog entries is a backlog entry. **Tests** - Python: shape errors, per-reader measuring, image words, the step and stage caps, the text split and its rewrite, the docgen rule firing and silent, an unbuildable stage file, and the catalog schema's refusals with the gate failing, failing on an unknown firmware and passing a good entry. - JS: the flash-baud test reads the rates from the schema. **Reviews** - 👾 MoonBase's help link pointed at a deleted page's anchor → done, it opens `update-firmware/boot-app`, and the map ignores the anchor a redirect appends. - 👾 a deep link to a step opened its process at the top while the text loaded → done, it waits for the text. - 👾 `setup_esp_idf.py` cited a deleted stage file → done. - 👾 the docgen rise → accepted, stated above. - 👾 text files deleted then rewritten → done, swapped in one by one. - 👾 saved choices parsed per input → done, once per process. - 👾 the stage file worked out twice → done, each stage records its file. - 👾 the caps table splitting the step-field list, wrapped comments, em-dashes in MoonDeck.md → done. - 👾 facts lost in the move → done for the releases link, the URL limit, the Pages source, release candidates, the API limit, the broker address, a running Teensy, the loopback fallback and the gallery order; the S3 testbench pin clash stays with its catalog entry. - 🐇 CodeRabbit's seven findings on 46e06de → done in this commit: duration rounding, dialog heights, every install recorded, the IDF backlog entry, the MoonDeck and UI wording. MoonLive effects now sit in collections (basics, waves, shaders, particles, audio, hpwit, StadBeest, moving heads), and the UI downloads a script from its collection while the device keeps every script in one folder. Ten of hpwit's procedural effects are ported to MoonLive. MoonWalk fills the contributor's processes, from picking a spec to reviewing a contribution, and its user map has six stages instead of eight. Store square coordinates in int arrays.
On a sufficiently wide or tall grid, moveSquares can assign a coordinate above 255 to qx or qy. A byte array truncates that coordinate, so the square renders at the wrong position. Use int arrays for grid coordinates. MoonLive defines byte as 0–255 and supports grid widths above 255. (moonmodules.org) As per coding guidelines: “any input, any order, any size.”

Keep the ESP-IDF pin owner and clone commands in the bump process aligned.
PINNED_IDF_COMMIT and PINNED_IDF_VERSION are declared in moondeck/build/build_esp32.py; setup_esp_idf.py imports them. The bump-idf process currently names setup_esp_idf.py as the file to edit.
The clone commands also hard-code v6.1, but the bump process does not list them. A future pin move can leave a shallow clone without the pinned commit, causing _checkout_pinned to fail. Add the clone commands to the process and correct the pin owner.

Update the bump-idf process to identify PINNED_IDF_COMMIT and PINNED_IDF_VERSION
in build_esp32.py as the pin owners, and include the hard-coded v6.1 clone
commands in moonwalk/11-hardware.yaml among the locations to update so the
shallow clone remains aligned with the pinned commit.

The map opens in one shared dialog in the app, the installer and MoonDeck, fits the whole journey on first open, and links each step to where it goes. Every MoonWalk process now reads one action per step, with CLAUDE.md's rules given a home in the contributor's processes, and the Getting started page opens straight on the map. Steps with a `<placeholder>` in their call are the reader's to run. - `durations.json` lives per machine in `build/moondeck-logs/` beside the run record; the committed copy and its CI warning are gone. - MoonDeck refuses a step run while its card's server serves, gets the map in `/api/gates?model=1`, checks once at startup that it runs in a checkout, and derives its contributor stages from the model. - `gen_moonwalk`: read and open steps carry their `url`, a read step's page must exist (a generated catalog page counts), a fenced code block keeps its `#` lines; `gen_help.heading_id` is the one heading-id rule and `tests_url` links the test inventory; the docs build generates the map once. - `check_devices` refuses a float where the schema wants an integer; `check_prose` exempts `.coderabbit.yaml`. **Tests** - Python: a pass that writes a file it covers holds, placeholder steps, title and goal caps, a missing process or goto target, the read and open links, the heading id against MkDocs' slugify, `compiled_sources` with the UI files, the float baud, the 257th subfolder, the scenario runner's op and mode rules; test git commits ignore the machine's signing and hooks. - JS: emphasis leaves code spans and link addresses alone; the repo path test reads `mlSubOf`. **Docs/CI** - The MoonWalk content pass: one action per say, repeated text cut, page self-references replaced by links, repeated steps called as processes, dependency loops removed, placeholders for example values, the eight stub processes given steps, and every CLAUDE.md process rule given a home in a process for step 11e to replace with links. - The spec, the schema's `page` text and the generator's message match what exists; `generative-fields-analysis-bottom-up.md` points at `docs/work/future/`; CI's Test workflow runs on MoonWalk changes and declares pyyaml and jsonschema. - The plan marks 11d and 16 done and gains step 21, softhack007's WLED rules on AI read against ours. **Reviews** - 👾 pre-merge, about 80 points over the branch: the bugs fixed and pinned (MoonDeck's stale passes, the killed preview, placeholder runs, the share crash, emphasis in code, the follow bar's steps, hosts rewriting their address, the consent scope, the float baud, the unknown op), the content pass for the stage files, the three map hosts folded into `openMap`, `durations.json` per machine (the product owner's call), and the small items done rather than backlogged; `navigation.tracking` stays off, the per-release `moonwalk.json` mirror is dropped from the spec, and `took()` stays in MoonDeck's classic script. - 👾 commit-time, nine points: the docs page's fallback, a NUL loop in `help.js`, MoonDeck's page links, the 409 guard on a second click, the dialog's text width order, the per-run checkout call, wrapped comments in `mkdocs_hooks.py` → done; the handler-order test → skipped, the durations file now sits outside the recorded tree; the edit-during-a-run window → accepted, named above. - 🐇 CodeRabbit, seven points: the bottom-up paths, the ring overflow, the 257th subfolder → done; the share message → already done; `int` coordinates in spinning-squares and voronoi → skipped, a script's members share 64 bytes and `int` arrays would need 84 and 81; the bump-idf pins → already placeholders. The Linux install command resolves its own file name, a process's page link works in MoonDeck's map, and the MoonWalk page links the web installer from its first line. CodeRabbit no longer pauses itself between the reviews asked for by hand. KPI: not measured, collect_kpi runs on a code change and this diff changes no src/ or C++ test; the repo-health files are the previous commit's run, left out of it to keep that commit at its staged diff. Checks: test_host --python (495) and --js, check_docgen (0 errors, 3080 warnings), check_prose, build_docs --strict, check_taglines pass. Not triggered: the desktop builds and tests, run_scenario, the ESP32 freshness (no src/ change). **UI** - `moonwalk.js`: a process's "Read the page" resolves against the host's `site`, as a step's link does, so MoonDeck's map opens the docs page. - The MoonWalk page's first line links the web installer. **Docs/CI** - `02-install.yaml`: the Debian install runs `./moonlight_*_$(dpkg --print-architecture).deb`, with no placeholder left for the reader. - `.coderabbit.yaml`: `auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits: 0`, since every review is asked for by hand and a pause only swallowed the next request. - `repo-health.json/.md`: the measurement of 55f36da. **Reviews** - 🐇 CodeRabbit on 55f36da: the install command with unresolved placeholders → done; "Read the page" against the wrong base → done. MoonWalk draws every MoonLight process, from deciding whether MoonLight suits your lights to a release, on one map, and the how-to pages move into it one reader's path at a time. It also puts the MoonLive scripts into collections and adds ten of hpwit's effects. It is steps 1 to 10, 11a to 11d and 16 of the plan Processes, described once.
MoonWalk
moonwalk/NN-<stage>.yaml, 12 stages and 58 processes with 381 steps, validated bymoonwalk.schema.jsonand checked bymoondeck/docs/gen_moonwalk.py: every module, control, script, page, process and step a step names exists.sayis one action in at most 8 words; details, intros, outros, words and steps per reader, processes per stage and the download are capped and ratcheted throughcheck_docgen. The map carries the steps; a process's prose loads when its view opens.openMap) in the device's app, the installer and MoonDeck. Zoom from the journey to the steps, filter by actor and system, choose your platform, hide steps that do not apply, read a process whole beside the map, and follow a step's link to its page or address. The developer process
The commit, merge and release gates, a contributor's pull request and reviewing a contribution are processes, and CLAUDE.md's rules each have a home in them (step 11e then replaces CLAUDE.md's copies with links). MoonDeck's map shows which checks a change needs, which passes still hold and how long each takes, and runs a step with one click (
/api/gates). A pass is recorded with the tree the run leaves behind, so its own report cannot make it stale; durations are measured per machine inbuild/moondeck-logs/. Building, flashing and the toolchains are processes;building.mdforwards to them. The how-tos, moved in
gettingstarted.mdandinstalling-to-desktop.mdforward here.updating-firmware.mdforwards here.mooninstaller/deviceModels.schema.json, whichcheck_devicesvalidates against.MoonLive scripts in collections
The effects sit in collections under
moonlive/effects/(basics, waves, shaders, particles, audio, hpwit, StadBeest, moving heads). The catalog records each script's subfolder,/api/scriptsserves it assub, and the app downloads a script and links its GitHub edit page from there, while the device keeps every script in one folder; a name duplicated across collections fails the build. Ten of hpwit's procedural effects are ported: fire, voronoi, mandala, plasma-wander, spinning-squares, particle-fountain, twinkle-stars, plasma-ring, ripple-rings and edge-comets.Also in this branch
boundsandskip_oncheck are gone; the per-target contract and the observations measure. In the in-process runnerlive_onlyis the one rule keeping a scenario out, a mutate scenario without a setup fails, an unknown mode fails, and an op neither runner knows fails rather than passing.*in them stays literal; consent to download the help now also names the map's graph library, and is asked once more.check_esp32_builtcounts the UI files the firmware embeds;check_prosereads MoonWalk's stage files; the Docker compose file drops itsplatformline; CI's Test workflow runs on MoonWalk changes.Checks and reviews
Each commit ran the checks its diff triggered through MoonDeck, listed in its message. The pre-merge Reviewer and its five sweeps (hosts, stage files against the spec, Python tests and scripts, docs sync) found about 80 points: the bugs are fixed and pinned, the content pass rewrote the stage files, and the rest is named in the commit message with its reason.
check_docgenholds one warning from its own rule, commit's 22 steps, folded in step 11e.From here
11e compares CLAUDE.md's gate diagrams with the gate processes and replaces its copies with links, then step 12 describes the REST API in OpenAPI.
