The visual RPC path now sends versioned image payloads and validates them before inference. It uses restricted RPyC settings, loopback binding, and bounded message frames. The visual server tracks shared-memory segments and cleans them up after inference.
Added versioned image batch packing and unpacking, recursive value validation, byte and container limits, and a RemoteEvent wrapper. Tests cover payload round trips, malformed payloads, size limits, and asynchronous notification.
Restricted and bounded RPC transport lightllm/server/visualserver/objs.py, lightllm/server/visualserver/rpyc_server.py, lightllm/server/visualserver/visual_only_manager.py, unit_tests/server/test_visual_only_rpyc.py, skills/test_model/qwen3-vl-8b-vit-sep-mode/SKILL.md
Added restricted visual-only RPyC settings and a channel that limits frame and decompressed message sizes. The visual server binds to loopback and uses the dedicated server. Tests cover binding, frame limits, and protocol restrictions. Deployment guidance specifies same-host proxy access and local-only use of port 8091.
Serialized inference and completion cleanup lightllm/server/visualserver/proxy_manager.py, lightllm/server/visualserver/model_infer/model_rpc_client.py, lightllm/server/visualserver/model_infer/model_rpc.py, lightllm/server/visualserver/visual_only_manager.py, unit_tests/server/test_visual_only_rpyc.py
The proxy and model RPC call sites send packed image items. The visual server validates payloads, tracks shared-memory segments, and cleans them up after completion or failure. Completion notification runs asynchronously. Tests cover RPC payload transfer and event signaling.
Cross-host deployment guidance should restrict Redis to trusted service hosts before merging; otherwise an untrusted host that can reach port 6000 may access it without credentials.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue [#1610] requires removal of unsafe RPyC deserialization and broad access, loopback binding, and explicit input validation. visual_only_rpyc_config disables pickle, unrestricted attributes, setting, deletion, and public-attribute access. start_visual_process passes hostname="127.0.0.1" through VisualOnlyThreadedServer. exposed_remote_infer_images accepts the versioned tuple payload and calls unpack_image_items with the configured batch limit and required image data. The validator checks payload structure, metadata, nested options, byte limits, and image count. RemoteEvent exposes only exposed_set. The added tests cover these controls.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes remain connected to [#1610]. Payload helpers, the bounded visual-only RPyC channel, restricted configuration, loopback registration, shared-memory cleanup, and caller and worker transport updates implement the security fix. The tests verify the new behavior. The deployment documentation explains the loopback requirement. The legacy general RPyC configuration remains unchanged and is not used by the visual-only server. No unrelated change is demonstrated.

Explanation
Docstring coverage is 86.96% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 46 functions across 8 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

- Line 85: Update image payload validation used by exposed_remote_infer_images
to enforce per-image and aggregate byte limits before copying payloads into
shared memory, and configure the RPyC frame-size limit so oversized tuple values
are rejected before reconstruction and validation.
Review comments at @lightllm/server/visualserver/visual_only_manager.py:
- Around line 177-179: Update the _callback flow so the client-owned
ref_event.set() notification runs outside the inference event-loop thread, and
ensure _cleanup_shared_memory() runs independently of the notification’s
response or completion.

Keep remote callback calls off the inference event loop.
handle.add_done_callback(_callback) normally runs _callback on self.new_loop. The callback then calls the client-owned RPyC netref ref_event.set() synchronously. A slow client can block the inference event loop and delay _cleanup_shared_memory().
Run the notification outside the inference event-loop thread, and release the tracked segments independently of the client's response. This callback and ordering already existed in the base revision, so the PR does not introduce the blocking behavior.

Loopback registration makes the visual-only server unreachable from other hosts.
VISUAL_ONLY_RPC_HOST is 127.0.0.1, and self.rpc_host takes that value. register_to_config_server_loop registers the same value as host_ip, and the proxy connects to the registered host_ip. A proxy on a different host therefore connects to its own loopback address and cannot reach the visual service.
The removed code resolved the node hostname when the server listened on 0.0.0.0, which allowed cross-host access. The repository documents this topology. The qwen3-vl-8b-vit-sep-mode test guide says that for multi-machine runs, the visual RPyC port (8091) must be reachable from other hosts. This change breaks that setup and adds no replacement.
Choose one of these changes:
Document that visual-only mode supports only same-host proxies, and update the multi-machine guidance to match.
Add an explicit opt-in bind address and advertised address for remote deployments. Pair it with transport authentication or a network boundary, because the endpoint remains unauthenticated.
The remedy is a design choice, so this review does not propose a code diff.

<title>Redis security | Docs</title>
<location>https://redis.io/docs/latest/management/security/</location>
<excerpt>citeturn0search0 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: last week; This document provides an introduction to the topic of security from the point of view of Redis. ... Since version 3.2.0, Redis enters a special mode called protected mode when it is executed with the default configuration (binding all the interfaces) and without any password in order to access it. ... However, the system administrator can still ignore the error given by Redis and disable protected mode or manually bind all the interfaces.
For instance, a single `FLUSHALL` command can be used by an external attacker to delete the whole data set.
## Protected mode
Unfortunately, many users fail to protect Redis instances from being accessed from external networks. Many instances are simply left exposed on the internet with public IPs. Since version 3.2.0, Redis enters a special mode called protected mode when it is executed with the default configuration (binding all the interfaces) and without any password in order to access it. In this mode, Redis only replies to queries from the loopback interfaces, and replies to clients connecting from other addresses with an error that explains the problem and how to configure Redis properly.
We expect protected mode to seriously decrease the security issues caused by unprotected Redis instances executed without proper administration. However, the system administrator can still ignore the error given by Redis and disable protected mode or manually bind all the interfaces.
## Authentication
Redis provides two ways to authenticate clients. The recommended authentication method, introduced in Redis 6, is via Access Control Lists, allowing named users to be created and assigned fine-grained permissions. Read more about Access Control Lists here.
The legacy authentication method is enabled by editing the redis.conf file, and providing a database password using the `requirepass` setting. This password is then used by all clients.
When the `requirepass` setting is enabled, Redis will refuse any query by unauthenticated clients. A client can authenticate itself by sending the AUTH command followed by the password.
The password is set by the system administrator in clear text inside the redis.conf file. It should be long enough to prevent brute force attacks for two reasons:
* Redis is very fast at serving queries. Many passwords per second can be tested by an external client.
* The Redis password is stored in the redis.conf file and inside the client configuration. Since the system administrator does not need to remember it, the password can be very long.

<excerpt>citeturn0search1 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: 3 days ago; * By default, Redis does not require any authentication and listens to all the network interfaces. ... Please check our security page for information about how to secure Redis.
Make sure to size your memory accordingly.
* See the `LATENCY DOCTOR` and `MEMORY DOCTOR` commands to assist in troubleshooting.
### Imaging
* When running under daemontools, use `daemonize no`.
### Replication
* Set up a non-trivial replication backlog in proportion to the amount of memory Redis is using. The backlog allows replicas to sync with the primary (master) instance much more easily.
* If you use replication, Redis performs RDB saves even if persistence is disabled. (This does not apply to diskless replication.) If you don't have disk usage on the master, enable diskless replication.
* If you are using replication, ensure that either your master has persistence enabled, or that it does not automatically restart on crashes. Replicas will try to maintain an exact copy of the master, so if a master restarts with an empty data set, replicas will be wiped as well.
### Security
* By default, Redis does not require any authentication and listens to all the network interfaces. This is a big security issue if you leave Redis exposed on the internet or other places where attackers can reach it. See for example this attack to see how dangerous it can be. Please check our security page for information about how to secure Redis.
## Running Redis on EC2
* Use HVM based instances, not PV based instances.
* Do not use old instance families. For example, use m3.medium with HVM instead of m1.medium with PV.
* The use of Redis persistence with EC2 EBS volumes needs to be handled with care because sometimes EBS volumes have high latency characteristics.
* You may want to try the new diskless replication if you have issues when replicas are synchronizing with the master.

<excerpt>citeturn0search2 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: 3 days ago; By default Redis binds to all the interfaces and has no authentication at all. ... Make sure the port Redis uses to listen for connections (by default 6379 and additionally 16379 if you run Redis in cluster mode, plus 26379 for Sentinel) is firewalled, so that it is not possible to contact Redis from the outside world.
However, to make hacking with Redis simpler, Redis provides a command line utility that can be used to send commands to Redis. This program is called redis-cli.
The first thing to do to check if Redis is working properly is sending a PING command using redis-cli:
`$ redis-cli ping
PONG
`
Running redis-cli followed by a command name and its arguments will send this command to the Redis instance running on localhost at port 6379. You can change the host and port used by `redis-cli` - just try the `--help` option to check the usage information.
Another interesting way to run `redis-cli` is without arguments: the program will start in interactive mode. You can type different commands and see their replies.
`$ redis-cli
redis 127.0.0.1:6379> ping
PONG
`
## Securing Redis

# Connection URLs
Learn the Redis connection URL format and how each client library interprets it
Most Redis client libraries can connect using a URL such as `redis://default:<password>@<host>:6379/0`. Only the basic form of the URL means the same thing in every client. Everything else, including how you set timeouts, TLS options, and the RESP protocol version, is specific to each client library.
The `redis` and `rediss` URL schemes have a provisional IANA registration, but this is not a formal standard. The registration describes the basic form and says that query parameters are implementation-defined and not portable between clients.
## URL format
The basic form of a Redis URL is:
`redis[s]://[[<username>][:<password>]@][<host>][:<port>][/<db-number>]
`
Part | Meaning | Default
--- | --- | ---
`redis` or `rediss` | Use `redis` for a plain TCP connection and `rediss` for a TLS connection. | (required)

<title>ACL | Docs</title>

<excerpt>citeturn0search4 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: last week; If authentication succeeded, the connection is associated with a given user and the limits the user has.Redis can be configured so that new connections are already authenticated with a "default" user (this is the default configuration).
# ACL
Redis Access Control List
Redis Open Source
---
The Redis ACL, short for Access Control List, is the feature that allows certain connections to be limited in terms of the commands that can be executed and the keys that can be accessed. The way it works is that, after connecting, a client is required to provide a username and a valid password to authenticate. If authentication succeeded, the connection is associated with a given user and the limits the user has. Redis can be configured so that new connections are already authenticated with a "default" user (this is the default configuration). Configuring the default user has, as a side effect, the ability to provide only a specific subset of functionalities to connections that are not explicitly authenticated.
## When ACLs are useful
Before using ACLs, you may want to ask yourself what's the goal you want to accomplish by implementing this layer of protection. Normally there are two main goals that are well served by ACLs:
1. You want to improve security by restricting the access to commands and keys, so that untrusted clients have no access and trusted clients have just the minimum access level to the database in order to perform the work needed.
By default there is a single user defined, called default. We can use the `ACL LIST` command in order to check the currently active ACLs and verify what the configuration of a freshly started, defaults-configured Redis instance is:
`> ACL LIST
1) "user default on nopass ~* &* +@all"
`
The command above reports the list of users in the same format that is used in the Redis configuration files, by translating the current ACLs set for the users back into their description.
The first two words in each line are "user" followed by the username. The next words are ACL rules that describe different things. We'll show how the rules work in detail, but for now it is enough to say that the default user is configured to be active (on), to require no password (nopass), to access every possible key (`~*`) and Pub/Sub channel (`&*`), and be able to call every possible command (`+@all`).
Also, in the special case of the default user, having the nopass rule means that new connections are automatically authenticated with the default user without any explicit `AUTH` call needed.

Do not expose unauthenticated Redis on an untrusted network.
The launcher binds Redis to config_server_host without authentication or TLS, and clients use plain redis:// URLs. The documented 0.0.0.0 binding can make port 6000 reachable by unauthorized clients. Restrict access to an approved private network and allowlisted service hosts, or add Redis authentication and TLS before supporting general cross-host deployment.
