\[Bug\] VeraCrypt silently crashes immediately after clicking Select File button (latest official version) #1836

Description

@kai1314

Describe the bug

VeraCrypt closes abruptly with zero pop-up errors, no warning prompts and no crash log window pops up every time I click the Select File button on the main UI. I have updated to the newest official release from SourceForge, but the crash problem still persists completely.

Environment Info

  • Operating System: Windows 11 24H2 and Windows 10 22H2
  • VeraCrypt Version: 1.26.29 x64
  • Installer source: Official SourceForge installation package
  • Running mode: Tested both normal launch & Run as administrator

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch VeraCrypt normally, also tried right-click → Run as administrator
  2. On the main window, click the Select File button to load encrypted volume file
  3. VeraCrypt quits instantly without any notification
  4. This crash occurs 100% reproducibly with every click

Expected behavior

After clicking Select File, the system file picker window should pop up normally for selecting the VeraCrypt container file.

Actual behavior

Program disappears directly, silent crash, no error information at all.

Troubleshooting I have already performed

  1. Fully uninstall old VeraCrypt, manually delete residual configuration folders in AppData, download and reinstall the latest official version → crash remains
  2. Run software with administrator privileges, restart computer multiple times → no improvement
  3. Temporarily disable third-party antivirus, firewall and system cleanup/optimization software for test → problem still exists
  4. Cannot mount my encrypted volume due to this file selector crash

Additional context

I cannot access my important encrypted files now because of this bug. Hope the team can look into this abnormal crash issue.
