Contributing to USWDS Elements

Thanks for your interest in contributing to USWDS Elements.

Important

This repo is currently in beta and not yet ready for community code contributions.

While the USWDS core team works through decisions about architecture and style, we'd prefer you do not submit pull requests unless you're in active partnership with us (and you'd know). Instead, please contribute by sharing your bug reports, ideas, concerns, questions, and experiences with the USWDS core team and community as we describe below.

How can I contribute?

Filing a bug report

If you discovered a bug that no one else has reported in our issues backlog, let us know by submitting an issue. Please keep in mind USWDS staffing is limited; we probably won't be able to respond immediately.

Starting a discussion

To share ideas, questions, or concerns with the USWDS core team and community, you can join any of our open discussions or start a new one.

Submitting a pull request

In this repo, we're not accepting code contributions from the broader community yet (other than the aforementioned limited partnerships). Check back later in 2026 for more info on how to contribute pull requests to USWDS Elements.

Code of Conduct

USWDS is committed to building a safe, welcoming, harassment-free culture for everyone.

By contributing to this repository, you agree to adhere to the GSA Social Media Policy (Section 10 Engagement). We expect all contributors, both internal and external, to engage respectfully and professionally in all project-related public communications.

We encourage you to read this project’s Contribution Guide (you are here) and its README. If you want to learn more about our open source policy or have other questions, check out the 18F Open Source Policy GitHub repository or send us an email.
