Hi @olmerg, thank you for sharing this, and I'm sorry I never replied: various life events got in the way, and since May I've been doing major work across the Robotics Toolbox, Swift and SpatialGeometry. Student-built robots, each with its own URDF, driven through RTB by an Arduino backend, is a lovely use of the toolbox, and it's good to hear that the students learned a lot of Python along the way. I'm closing this now, but if you'd like to take your protocol ideas further, please post an Issue or open a pull request describing them. |

@olmerg, it's lovely to see this: students building their own robots, each with its own URDF, driven through RTB via Arduino. I'm starting to collect examples of what people have built with RTB in a "Show and tell" category. Would you be happy for me to move this thread there and pin it, so other teachers can see it? No problem at all if you'd rather not. If you have a photo of the robots, it would be great to add. |
Uh oh!

I want to share with your the initial project , with was made with some students of undergraduate course industrial robotics.
The project consisted that the students builds his robot (one group use wood, other metal, and other acrylic) , generate the urdf model, and then though and Arduino connect to the robotics toolbox like a backend which made the inheritance of swift library.
It works, but there exists some things to arrange in the protocol and many ideas because the robots also communicate with Bluetooth with a generic app.
Really interesting because the student learns a lot about python(just had some experiences in java and Arduino) and the use of github (additional to robotics off course).
The repository is rtb-serial-robot.
Any feedback is welcome,
@olmerg
