Install Bashly with Homebrew

Description

Bashly can now be installed with Homebrew:

• From Homebrew Core:

  brew install bashly

• From our official bashly-framework/homebrew-tap:

  brew install bashly-framework/tap/bashly

The formula was added to Homebrew Core in Homebrew/homebrew-core#299954.

I remember one person I tried to convince how bashly is cool stopped me right in the beggining with "I don't want to handle Ruby installation in specific version, neither install a specific gem". Now with a simple brew install the life of a bashly evangelist is a bit easier. 🙂

How do you handle the dependency on a Ruby runtime on the end-user's side?

Is there any docs explaining how to do this?

The irony is that installing with homebrew is the most complex and the slowest method of all the installation methods.
It installs Ruby and all the fixed locked dependencies. Brew users could have just as easily do "brew install ruby && gem install bashly".
But I know some mac users need to be fed with a small spoon.... so I worked for two days on this spoon.

Now, how to create the formula? I'm assuming you didn't write all those infos about the dependencies manually.

(Maybe I'm acting like a mac user wanting to be fed with a spoon of links to the official Homebrew documentation. 😔 I'm gonna google about this.)

Good questions. I asked myself and my agent the same question. There was no existing tool that does that to our knowledge, so we made one... 😎

If you look at the local tap, in the gembrew folder you will see a few files. These are the only files I edit manually.

The formula itself is created by running gembrew build in this folder.
It does all the heavy lifting, and gets the checksums of all relevant dependencies and so on.

It is intended to allow any gem developer to easily create a brew formula.
